What is happening to my friend's town? :(

Wow that is freaky D: hopefully everything works out though, i couldn't imagine something like this happening to my town

Never seen anything like that, I feel so sorry for your friend :(.

I think a new cartridge is needed, I hope he can transfer his items. If not I have quite a few spare blue roses and could spare some bells if he needs them.

A new cartridge is needed. For sure.

Second off...I don't think that there will be an issue with the items if they are transferred, I think the game does not try to read the sprites directly over Wi-Fi, rather it processes it in the game itself with its own database of sprites and graphical stuff and whatever. This is somewhat evidenced by the fact that if someone comes over, the issue is temporarily fixed. That's at least my theory, if there is an issue with the new town it could possibly be the items, but since you've claimed that the town looks fine on your screen when you visited it, I don't see why there should be an issue.

Wow that is some extreme glitching. I've never seen that happen before (I've never seen ACNL glitches). As most have probably already suggested and is probably already done as I type this is to restart over. Make a couple of new towns and save the files, then re-launch the game to check and see if its in fact a damaged cartridge or if it was just the save file that got corrupted in the cartridge. Its unfortunate that this can happen to our lovely towns :(

This is really bad, the pictures look like some graphic thingy or a circuit is broken inside the game cartridge. I really wonder what would happen if a new town is started? I hope it can be fixed but it doesn?t seem so. Good luck!

It may not be the cartridge all the way.

It looks like it might corrupt. :< I've seen many glitches (Invisible hat trick, which made my background), but this is bad. At least the bushes look Christmas-ey!

i would try contacting nintendo, or maybe going to best buy. sorry about your friends town :( lowkey think those pictures look really cool lol

A wild time is what's happening.
All joking aside, I think it is most definitely something wrong with the cartridge, maybe it got too hot or cold? I know that can damage electronics.

This is most definitely a damaged cartridge. Even if your friend was the only one to have touched it, it's possible that it might've been a faulty game cartridge and doomed to have glitched out either way. It may be time to get a new cartridge if that is the case.

Louis wanted me to say thank you for your responses and for trying to help or at least give us some idea of what was going on. We will be transferring his items and he'll be turning a spare cycling town into his new town in the meantime. Zambia will unfortunately have to be reset and the cartridge will most likely be binned, but he's in good spirits.

Thanks for all your help!
He really appreciates it.

Had to be some of weirdest, but coolest glitches I've ever seen.

I hate to see a town with such hard work go to waste because of a faulty cartridge, and it kinda makes me worry about my cartridge.

But he should keep the glitch one after moving everything out and make some sweet YouTube videos with all the glitches.

Aw, that really sucks. :C I'm sorry this happened. I know your friend already came to terms with this, but I agree with everyone else that it's got to be the cart. I reset a LOT and I don't think that's what did it. If he was duping, that might have caused it too though, because I've heard there is a couple of different ways of duping and one way is far more dangerous and can lead to corruption.

They are pretty cool glitches though, I agree. At least there's that! Sad about losing all the work though. I hope he can transfer some stuff without too much trouble. If it was me, I would also try to create a new save file and see if that does anything...since the wifi thing is kind of able to go around the glitches, a new save file might also. If nothing else, it might allow him to transfer stuff to his town somehow. IDK, just trying to brainstorm something that might be of a little help. Best of luck to your friend. ^_^

I'm glad he's feeling better about the issue. It really sucks when stuff like that happens but it can also be fun to restart and at least he's able to get his stuff transferred first.

As it's probably a faulty cartridge I would recommend contacting Nintendo but apparently their warranty period is only 90 days. So, I don't know if anyone already gave you tips on cleaning the cartridge but he might want to give it a shot. Obviously the easiest way is to use alcohol and a q-tip and wipe the copper contacts on the back. Make sure there i no gunk between the pins. You can even use something with a fine edge and run it between them to remove stuff (kind of like cleaning your fingernails.)

If it is still glitchy after reset (once he's got all of his stuff nice and safe elsewhere) and you plan to toss the cartridge you could always crack it open and see if there is anything going on on the inside. There are some youtube videos to help with that, though as I said I wouldn't do it until you are sure you're going to trash it anyway. I'm just the curious type who would want to know what happened if it were me.
