I'm pretty sure you could buy a membership for medals, but I never had enough and I was always curious.

It's just like your island except you can play with up to three other people who also have Club Tortimer. It's sometimes a cool way to get to play with strangers and meet new people, I like to do it so I can do tours with other people. You can choose to play with only people who live in the same general area as you, or meet people from around the world. Once you get it when you go to the boat Kapp'n will ask you who you want to go on the island with. It's also a nice way to get different store items cause there will be different island items in the CT store than what you have that day on YOUR island.

To extend on that, there are also CT only items you can only get on CT, so you HAVE to go if you don't want to trade/buy them from someone.

Just beware of Club Tortimer sometimes. You can find some rude, shady people there. I've had people beg me for money and when I said no, they would fling insults at me and then hit the wifi switch. There are some who would try to trap you on the item by remaining in a menu or a conversation. If you are trapped there or if you've had enough with rude players, flick your wifi switch to get out.

Most of the people on the Island can be jerks, beggars, trolls, etc. But you can find nice people if you're lucky enough.

If someone is very rude block them. You can click on their name in the left hand corner. Pick the one that is rude and block them.
You'll never see them again.

Like everyone else said, there will be perverts, beggars, trolls, and bratty kids. Just ignore them. They're just immature losers who live with their parents. (If they are over 18) Don't let them stop you from having a good time. Don't worry, there are also very friendly people. :)

Once you buy the club Tortimer membership, the next time you visit the island, Kappa'n will ask you whether or not you want to play with more people. You can play with up to three more people in the island, and everything that you do when you play by yourself (including island games), you can do with them.

I usually use that mode with I feel lonely or need something refreshing to do when I'm losing brain cells from catching bugs for so long.

I would say that most of people are nice but some can be jerks etc. I spend a lot of time on islands, more than in my own town actually and even if there is a lot of beggars (like maybe 30%) real jerks are less common for me... but anyway it's easy to get rid of them.

I should add that it may not be a good idea to swap FC right away though, again, most of people I added were nice and behave, but I fell on some more annoying ones that looked nice at the beginning, but took my stuff and ate my perfect apples without asking first (of course I would have said no, that's probably why they didn't bother to ask...;)) That wi-fi switch is a blessing.
