What if we could...

Should we be able to have conversations/do favours for special characters?

(To clarify, I'm Australian. We spell favourite, colour and favour with "U's". Deal with it.)

What if we could do favours for special characters too? Like Tom Nook and the Able Sisters. They could give us rewards, and we could earn their picture if we do enough for them.

If not, couldn't we at least have normal conversations with them? Keep their original features, but they could talk about their own lives, different to the villagers. Like Sable does.

The ability to work for Tom Nook to get paid Bells would seem like a cool idea. Also in Wild World, you can give him a safe and he will give you his picture. I'd really like normal conversations with special characters a lot as well. Only problem is that I don't know which one to choose since choosing "Both" would be the same as choosing "Do favours and have conversations."

This is a cool idea. I know AC isn't really a game about lore but I liked reading what Sable has to say as you progress your friendship with her, and Lyle's random gossip with Tom Nook. It gives the characters a little more depth, makes them seem less like two-dimensional NPCs and more like characters with a life beyond their job.

D'oh, I'll fix that.

Wait, I can't. Never mind it, then.

Don't worry, I chose Do favours and have conversations as that is what most people are going for (in terms of clicking on Both or Do favours and have conversations, which are both the same thing).

having more in depth conversations with the special characters seems like a cool idea. you do work for nook in some ac games but that's not fun since you're forced to and it's more of a debt than a favour.

What I meant is that you should have the option to work for him whenever you want and he will pay you. It would be an easier way to pay off your loan quickly.

As much as I like the idea, if special characters became more like villagers, they might lose what makes them special. And as much as I liked Sable's little backstory, I like the ambiguity that some of the other NPCs have.

I miss working for Tom tbh. I think it would be nice if they implemented more minigames like Brewsters. It would be awesome to help the Able sisters make clothes, or do proper Mayoral duties with Isabelle... Even helping Porter with the train! (I love that little monkey)

It would be nice to be able to have conversations with the special characters, but I kind of agree with Cheren that they might lose a little of what makes them special in the first place. Maybe if it's just a little more than we get now it could work, but don't go too overboard toward normal villager territory. But if the creators handle it well, I'd like to be proven wrong.

As for doing favors for them, that definitely interests me. Working for Tom Nook in the GameCube game was fun, and it would be nice to see that return in some fashion in the future. Making clothes or delivering things for the Able Sisters would be nice too, as others mentioned. Heck, we could even include the Museum and help to keep the floors/glass/displays clean.

I think this would be a cool idea! As for having conversations with the NPCs, I agree that it would have to be limited so they don't just turn into normal villagers and still stand out as special characters but if it was carried out in the same way as Sabel's conversations were (what I mean by that is you can talk a little bit every day, and the conversation actually tells you something unique about the NPC, not just random dialogue like the villagers have) then I think it would be a lovely addition, I really want to know more about the backstory of the characters, even though Animal Crossing isn't the most lore-based game!
As for favours, I definitely wouldn't want them to be like the villager ones, randomly getting fruit, sigs, etc, instead I would like it to be like little minigames, basically like working at the Roost! It would be cool to work at other NPC buildings, helping the Able sisters make clothing or cleaning up the Museum for Blathers. Something along the lines of making deliveries (like what you did for Tom Nook in the previous games) would be quite fun as well!
There are so many possibilities for this! I hope something to do with having more social interactions with the special NPCs is implemented in the future games! ^_^

Conversations, yeah. That would be cool. But favors? I already have too many obligations with my villagers, I don't need more. It would be kinda a cool idea, but to be honest I don't think I would do favors for them much. Too much work.

I think it'd be a fun feature! However, I would limit the favour to being something like one special character favour a day or something like the ping feature for normal villagers to keep the tasks more special. And instead of a picture, they could give you exclusive items, bells, or a discount off your next purchase.

the ability to help NPCs and get rewards would be pretty cool imo
