What Happens After Time Travel?

Okay, so this is probably a super dumb question, but I honestly can't find the answer anywhere. All the videos I've watched end with "congrats, you now made your least favorite villager move out".

If I understand time traveling correctly, you change the date of your Switch around until you get what you want (certain flowers, villagers, whatever). However... what happens once you HAVE all that? Do you re-set your Switch clock to the correct time - doesn't the Switch do this automatically? - or do you just stay in whatever future date you are? Wouldn't re-setting the time also reset the game back to when you started, erasing all your efforts? (Or am I thinking too much in Star Trek terms here?) I'm kinda confused on this one point, I think I've understood the rest of the time traveling principles.

Just some more info: I've never time traveled but I might have to because I want a specific villager people sometimes seem to give away here (Henry), and I want to be prepared for all possible repercussions.

i personally set the date back to normal once i achieved whatever it was i wanted and from my personal experience, the switch will not go back to regular time on its own. and no, returning to the normal date won’t erase anything that you did as long as you saved before closing the game but that goes for regular play without time travel, too lol

there’s loads of weeds and twigs to pick up & sometimes a lot more fossils to dig up.

Okay, thanks for the quick replies, y'all! I'm glad it won't erase what I did, that was my main concern. I can deal with twigs and weeds having to be picked up, lol! I just don't want to mess anything up because I really don't like resorting to time travel but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do when there's this one villager you want.
