I've been addicted to animal crossing ever since I discovered Wild World in 5th grade. I'm not sure exactly what it is about it that got me addicted, but I think for me it's the overall experience? I have this kind of desire to complete collections of things in general, so I think that really helps drive my addiction, like wanting to complete the museum, my catalog, clothes stuff, etc.

I'm really interested in what aspects of the game got other people addicted.

Everything. I think the fact that it's like a second world for me and stuff and that i can always come back and there will always be my friends there ;-;

I think I got WW when I was in grade school, either 4th or 5th grade, and I played the hell out of it. I even remember staying up past my allowed 'bed time' (8 o'clock) to water my flowers and bug hunt. Man, the music is so nostalgic to me <3

acnl was my first animal crossing game and i think it was the aspect of creating your own town and getting all your favorite villagers for me.

I completely relate to ALL of those!

@MyLifeIsCake I'm obsessed with your signature I love Sunny and of course kitton mittons

I don't even remember what of it got me so addicted. I remember I played my cousin's ds and she let me play wild world and I was automatically hooked on it. I played it for one night and the next day, I wanted it. After I got it, literally me and all my cousins started playing it, and I even made a new group of friends at school because of one very long conversation about animal crossing. but it seems I'm the only one who continued playing wild world after the excitement over it when we were younger and continued onto New Leaf.
My favourite thing back then was making money. I loved showing off how awesome my house was, and I made others do things like pick all my weeds for me and I'd pay them.

I played city folk when I was 6. I am 12 now. (don't judge my youngness ):o
I remember I had kiki and bones, and hated the others. kiki moved out unexpectedly one day, im like "screw this Nintendo game!"
never played again, then found acnl was coming, and got it :p

Its a great show isn't it?

There's never a bad time to watch it...it will ALWAYS make you laugh...

That's really interesting that you were the only who who stuck with it! I was the same way. My cousins and I played fanatically when we were younger (acww) but now that we're onler I'm the only one who continued onto acnl. They basically think they "out-grew" DS games. (I'm 19 now, they're 21 and 23)

I came for the cute animals and stayed for the comfortable atmosphere. It's such a relaxing game. It's great for coping with stress or mild anxiety. Animal Crossing is the closest thing to a hug as a video game can be.

I like playing before bed to fall asleep. It makes me feel sleepy. Not because I'm bored, but because I get very content. I don't have trouble sleeping once I actually get there, but I'm pretty high strung. It's hard to fall asleep. Animal Crossing mellows me out and acnl is the best because I can actually just stay in bed rather than sit at the tv.

I've definitely noticed that it appeals to people with anxiety or other mental disorders (i have anxiety and depression so I feel ya on the relaxing bit) I also love that I can play in bed and wherever i want really! ^u^

i had a crush on a 26 year old man child and wanted to impress him
and i hadn't played AC since gamecube

...now i don't even talk to the (now 27 year old) man child, but i still have my game ehe

edit: also seconding the anxiety relief factor of it. having a panic attack? lay down and talk to your villagers. makes my heart stop palpitating.

I started playing city folk and was really fascinated at the idea of hybrids XD (this was a while ago...) Now I just love the aspect of decorating my town. I've kinda lost interest in designing the inside of my houses tho...

I only started playing with ACNL. I love the collecting aspect of it, as well as how it's like a little world on it's own, with weather and species and events. I love that I can just disappear into the game and find that it calms me so much. I've been playing with the same town since UK release, and I've gotten so attached to it.

*raises hand*
Here's another high anxiety person who finds ACNL very calming. Maybe it's partly the routine I have when I play it-find all the fossils, shake down the trees, check out the beach for shipwrecked seagulls, etc. Plus the music is easy on the ears, and I still find my villagers amusing to talk to. It's so addictive I have 2 carts of ACNL and one of WW.

What first attracted me to the idea of this game was the idea of playing it in real time. I'd never come across a game like that before.

I think what keeps me coming back is that there is always something else you can be doing if you get bored. There's actually an awful lot you can do in this game. I've been ignoring landscaping my town in favour of earning badges, and there are so many badges.

Plus it is terribly soothing just walking around chatting, shopping and tidying, with the worst that can happen being a villager deciding to move. All the other video games I play involve violence and saving very important places and people. They can be fun too, but ACNL is a more restful kind of fun.

I got addicted ever since my cousin showed me the first one for GameCube. Animal crossing is just amazing and I'll keep playing it forever.

Character customization

There was a guy at school who was a friend of a friend and had a guide book for one of the games. The three of us would spend lunch going cover to cover through that book. I was absolutely amazed by the amount of clothes/accessories the book showed you could dress your character in

I think wild world is what first got me addicted, I didn't put as much effort into it as I do with new leaf though. I really enjoy the landscaping and collecting aspects of the game. According to my activity log I've put in 1272:57 hours into acnl. >.<
