What games did you complete in 2024?

I completed five six games in 2024:

Key:🏆 = 100% Completion | 📖 = Story Only.

📖 Devil May Cry 5 (PS5)
This is the first DMC game I've ever played and I loved it. The trophy list was way too intimidating to try and 100% this, but I enjoyed the gameplay a lot. I most liked playing as V.

🏆 Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin (PS5)
This game was a fantastic trip down memory lane. I didn't care for the characters much (except for Jed) - but the level design, combat, job system, and throwbacks were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the Refrin Wetlands, which was a great little nostalgia trip back to Sunleth Waterscape in Final Fantasy XIII.

📖 Pokémon Brilliant Diamond (Switch)
These games get a lot of flack, but I actually enjoyed my return to Sinnoh! I completed the story and the Regional Dex, but loaned the game to a friend before completing the National Dex.

📖 Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Switch)
Perhaps my favourite game I played this year. I loved the story, the open world, and think it was handled miles better than Scarlet and Violet. I'm nowhere near completing the Pokédex though.

🏆 Pokémon Let's Go Eevee (Switch)
When I first played this at launch I thought it was really boring. I restarted it in June this year and my impression has changed entirely. I love this game and really hope we'll see a Let's Go game set in Johto one day.

🏆 Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town (PS4)
Last minute addition coming in hot on December 29th! The Home Cooking Tastes Best trophy was a nightmare, but overall a fantastic revisit to one of my favourite games of all time and I'm glad to have achieved the platinum for this one.

A lot of my gaming time this year went to chill/cozy/sandbox-y games, so not a big year for game completion for me, but that's okay! ( ・∀・)b I do hope to complete more games in 2025 though ehehe
In all three of these I completed the main story + some extras, but I'll keep the star emoji from my usual key anyway just for the sake of making my post pretty.

⭐ Pokémon White 2 - I started this one... possibly in 2023, or maybe just very early this year? I didn't get very far in either way, and didn't pick it back up until July—while I wasn't expecting it to become one of my favorite Pokémon games, it absolutely did! I got super into it and I'd say it's an easy pick for my favorite game I played this year. I also came out of the experience with a mad crush on Colress so. make of that what you will

⭐ Pokémon X - I definitely understand the "too easy" complaints
although even so, I swear to god Siebold's team was designed to wreck mine specifically, but otherwise I enjoyed this one! The Pokémon Amie and Super Training minigames were really fun, and I got a lot out of them. I wasn't a big fan of some of the characters, but I liked the rest of the story for the most part. The post-game questline was really sweet.

⭐ Rune Factory 3 Special - I love Rune Factory games, and this one was no exception! Even viewing all the bachelorettes' routes, it was relatively short, but considering how many ongoing farm sim playthroughs I have, that wasn't a bad thing for me ahaha. Since it was a remaster, I wish they'd added in some of the QoL features from later games though. I won't be going for 100% on this one I don't think, but I may come back to it now and again if I just want to run the Sharance Maze or see the characters.

i completed the story of a lot of games (15ish total) this year.. i felt i had a bit of catching up to do : ]
🏆 = platinum trophy/100% completion
📖 = story completion

🏆 superliminal (PS5). thought i'd be unable to get the platinum trophy because of the speedrun, though i persisted and achieved the time needed for the platinum on my third attempt on new year's day.. definitely thought i messed up the run near the end. recommend

🏆 frog detective: the entire mystery (PS5). super cool and charming game, the characters and dialogue made me chuckle lots and lots

🏆 buddy simulator 1984 (PS5). this game means a lot to me. one of my favourite games that i've played this year. i need to continue my second run through at some stage

🏆 pokémon legends: arceus (switch). first mainline pokémon game that i've played. i enjoyed the open world and the tasks to catch pokémon but the story hasn't stayed in my brain at all

🏆 + 📖 undertale (PS5). i took a bit too long of a break in between this and other games i was playing and forgot the lore of the game when i got to the final boss on my neutral run, oops

🏆 hades (PS5). loved the animation, bright environments and different combinations for combat. cool to make slow progress through learning the bosses' movements. i wasn't paying much attention to the narrative for the most part though, the way it was told was a bit samey to me and i lost interest.. very cool other stuff though

📖 resident evil 2 remake (PS5). first resident evil game that i've played. had some fun jumpscare feelings and also reading the files and finding more about the story through them. mr x gave me a couple of heart attacks at one stage on my first playthrough

🏆 animal well (PS5). first metroidvania that i've played in a long while. loved exploring the different areas and appreciated the map a lot. fun puzzles and highly cool

🏆 detroit: become human (PS5). liked watching the media that people uploaded onto youtube closer to when the game launched. also found some new tracks on spotify thanks to the game! earned the platinum in 3 days before my PS plus subscription expired

🏆 until then (PS5). joint favourite game that i've played this year. adore the narrative and the characters tons. really liked the different mini-games as well. definitely the platinum trophy i'm most proud to have earned in my collection

I finished 25 games this year despite having a part-time job and finishing 43 books. That sounds impressive, but most of those games were under ten hours. To save space on this post, I will put my thoughts on each match under a spoiler tag. I will go in chronological order from the first game to the last.

1. Ys: Memories of Celceta: The graphics were rough, and the story was cliche, but the combat was fast-paced, fun, and responsive. Exploring dungeons was entertaining as well.

2. Mother 3 (Fan translation): The story was phenomenal, but I can see why Nintendo never released it outside Japan. The game would've needed heavy censoring so as not to cause a lot of controversy internationally. While the main story was well written, I felt the NPCs were less interesting to talk to than in Earthbound, and the gameplay was okay.

3. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana: An absolute hidden gem. The island setting was a blast to explore, the combat was engaging, and the story, while not the most original, was entertaining. If you like action JRPGs at all, it is a must.

4. Cat Quest: A harmless, short, and fun Diablo clone with cute visuals. It won't blow you away, but it's a nice way to spend a few hours. The combat is entertaining, if a bit simple, but the lack of dungeon and enemy variety was frustrating. I can only suggest getting it during a sale.

5. Cat Quest 2: A massive upgrade over the original. There is much more enemy variety, fleshed-out combat, and content. I've heard good things about the co-op, too.

6. Fantasy Life: This game's content is staggering for a 3DS game. The main quest, sadly, was shorter than I would've liked.

7. Animal Crossing New Horizons: This game was easier to commit daily than New Leaf, which is gorgeous to watch. However, the music, multiplayer, and dialogue were a step back from that game.

8. Lunistice is a fun, 3D Sonic-inspired game with good controls and level design. My only issue with it was that it was too short.

9. Pseudoregalia: The game perfectly nails the atmosphere of the games on the Nintendo 64 while having a fun moveset with which to play. The map system was poor, though; it was easy to get lost since many rooms looked similar. For what I believe to be the first 3D platformer, Metroidvania, it's an impressive first attempt.

10. Ghostpia Part 1: The art style and interesting setting make this visual novel stand out from the competition. Releasing the game in two parts is a decision I disagree with, though.

11. Until Then: One of the most heartbreaking and impactful stories I've seen in a video game. It's a game that will stick with me for a long time.

12. Milk Outside A Bag Outside A Bag of Milk: For a horror game made by one person, it's very impressive, but I left it wanting more since the game can be beaten in an hour.

13. Hookah Haze: An awful knockoff of a much better indie game and the worst game I finished this year. The good endings were anticlimactic, every conversation in the game felt short and underdeveloped, and the character portraits were distractingly blurry. Play Va-11 Hall-A instead.

14. Slay The Princess - The writing was sharp, and each ending was unpredictable and exciting.

15. Tsukihime (remake) - The production values in this game were the best I had ever seen in a visual novel. The story took a while to start, but it was a roller coaster once it did.

16. Aokana - Extra 1: It was an okay follow-up to the original game. Nothing about it was special.

17. Aokana - Extra 2: It was much better than the first Extra game, but it leaned too heavily on the action scenes and not on the slice-of-life scenes that defined the original Aokana game.

18. Muv-Luv Alternative: One of the most overrated games I've ever played. The world-building was fascinating and had some good moments, but the pacing was atrocious. Every scene dragged on longer than it needed to. It was a 30-hour game that stretched to 50 hours. The ending made the entire game feel like a waste of time.

19. Needy Streamer Overload: Despite the repeated dialogue and the repetition needed to get every ending, I really enjoyed this game. The pixel art was cute, the soundtrack was good, and Ame was a brilliantly written portrayal of a person with BPD and psychosis.

20. Hazy Mind: The art was great for a visual novel made by one person, and the story was well done, but the voice acting was very amateurish, and most endings were too short.

21. Mouthwashing: It's unfortunate this game has an awful fandom because it is wonderful. The game takes what seems like a predictable plot and goes insane with it. The game is filled with well-rounded, flawed characters and surreal events. Go into this game blind, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

22. Fatum Betula: I hate saying anything negative about this game since it has cool secrets and was made passionately, but it wasn't fun to play. Getting all the endings requires repeatedly doing the same handful of things, and I wanted it to be over.

23. Marco & The Galaxy Dragon: The art and animated cutscenes were nice, but the plot made zero sense.

24. Psychopomp Gold: The combat was abysmal, and the game was overly punishing with its lack of checkpoints and hiding the true ending behind collectibles that you couldn't go back to get, but as a horror experience, I loved it. Each level had a fascinating premise with terrifying NPCs and enemies behind every corner. Learning about the strange world the game was set in was a treat. I look forward to the sequel and hope the developer improves the gameplay while keeping the same great scares and storytelling.

25. Super Mario Bros. Wonder: While I don't find 2D Mario games as enjoyable as I used to, I can't deny this is the best 2D Mario game in a long time. The level design was inventive, the new art style was refreshing, and having Daisy playable in something other than a spinoff is wonderful.

I ended up beating 15 games in 2024! Admittedly it's lower than what I've been able to achieve the past few years, but that's kinda just the way 2024 went for me.

Legend: ⭐ = 100%, ✅ = beat but didn't 100%, 🔁 = repeat (something I've beat before - includes playing the original version of ports/remakes)
  • Metroid Prime Remastered (Switch) ⭐ 🔁
  • Pikmin (Switch) ⭐ 🔁
  • Pikmin 2 (Switch) ⭐ 🔁
  • Pikmin 3 Deluxe (Switch) ⭐ 🔁
  • Pikmin 4 (Switch) ⭐ 🔁
  • Tunic (PS5) ⭐
  • Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Randomizer ⭐ 🔁
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch) ⭐
  • It Takes Two (Switch) ✅
  • Red Dead Redemption (including Undead Nightmare) (PS4) ⭐ 🔁
  • Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (Switch) ⭐
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree (Switch) ✅
  • Picross 3D (Wii U VC) ⭐
  • Banjo-Tooie (Switch via NSO+EP) ⭐ 🔁
  • Cult of the Lamb (Switch) ✅

Also, while I beat it last year, I did go back and 100% Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this year. So a lot of repeats, a lot of 100%s. Definitely curious to see how things will go in 2025 for me, since I would like to decrease my backlog one of these days, lol.

I did not complete a whole lot in 2024 but I'm hoping that 2025 will be better!

The Last Campfire (Switch)- This is a cute little puzzle game I completed at the beginning of the year. Less than 10 hours, just a short and sweet game.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch)- I started on this back in 2023 but I finally finished it up in 2024 after taking a really long break.

Apollo Justice Ace Attorney (3DS) - I bought this on my 3DS before the eshop closed (also before the Switch collection got announced) and I finally got around to playing it near the end of 2024.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Trails through Daybreak! only two games but both were very very good

I finished a second play-through of OMORI. I also finished the Silent Hill 2 Remake which was fantastic.

I know I’m late but…

I embarrassingly only beat terraria for the first time last year, but I’ve owned and constantly played it since 2021

I also got Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe around May, made it to the final boss, decided it was too hard, then just let it rot until October or November when I finally beat it. It was really easy idk what happened

I played and beat all 4 rhythm heaven games in 2024 and I need more I would buy that crap day one if they released another

I think I replayed all of Undertale twice? I’ve sorta lost track of the number of times I’ve played the game, yet I still play True Pacifist every single run through (probably because I couldn’t beat Undyne the Undying). But yea, played a lot of the Sims and a lot of rhythm games, but neither of them have any sort of ending.
