just curious. i'm a bit envious, honestly. mostly because they can achieve so easily what i have to work so hard for. personally, if i could cheat, the temptation would be too strong not to. but at the same time cheating would make the game less fun.

so the question remains: do you admire hacked dream towns as much as towns that were created through hard work and fair play?

I will visit a hacked dream to get ideas for my town
I admire them yes.. but like I do not respect the creator for cheating

I absolutely adore good non hacked towns
they are such an inspiration =)

Hacked towns are cool but not something I would want to do

I honestly don't mind them. It takes a lot of creativity to at least put everything together. Hacking just saves time. It's like comparing digital art and traditional art. One can take less time/money than the other, but both require creativity and imagination, which can't be bought/emulated, to be successful. It doesn't make one more superior than the other though.

^ same. they're brilliant inspiration. but some of the features are unattainable through fair play. but yeah, well made non-hacked dream towns are amazing.

How do you know if a dream town is hacked? I have only visited maybe a dozen dream towns at the most.

i can see where you're coming from. but on the other hand, someone who can't hack might have brilliant ideas, but don't have the means to bring them to life. which is unfortunate and unfair.

sometimes there are obvious signs like a house on the beach or a trees on a cliff or plants in the water etc

the only hack i would ever consider is the one where you can put clovers in the pond or river, and where you can put bushes and trees anywhere (like on the perimeter of the town) i dont judge the creator for hacking, but its hard for me to be inspired by it because i cant achieve it myself.

I'll be honest, I just don't feel the same way towards them. But if theyre aren't any obvious signs, how would I know it was hacked?

actually, there were a few dream towns i visited without knowing they were hacked beforehand. they looked so beautiful, and later when i found the creators' blogs, i learned that they were intense hackers. it definitely killed my motivation quite a bit.

It seems fair to me considering that anyone with internet access can choose to find the tools to hack their town. People just choose not to. Not that I'm trying to defend hacking.

well, if someone has a new 3ds or the wrong firmware, hacking simply isn't an option. unless they spend money on it, which once again makes it unfair since some people can do it for free while others can't.

I see. I realized recently that some of the towns that really inspired me or just had a lot of work put into them might have possibly been hacked, but I just wasn't aware that this was a thing going on at the time.

I have nothing against, but its just one of those things...I'm just not as impressed. And I find the towns that aren't as seemingly perfect, but are unique and awesome and havent been hacked (there are some towns that have obviously not been hacked but you can see all the work/time has been put into them) to be way more inspiring.

I visit dream towns a lot. Its one of my fave things to do in the game.

I like visiting hacked towns.I do think they are often a bit messy with too many trees, bushes, etc.The ones I've seen were all kind of the same. Pwp's, flowers, clovers, etc in the water.Villagers houses on the beach or in the water. A maze made with rocks. They're cool to see at first, then they start getting a bit boring.

I love towns where the player spent a lot of time making it beautiful, and made the houses really nice. My favorite dream towns have really unique and clever houses.

I love seeing hacked towns. I usually like seeing dream towns that have actually had something done with them, especially since so many dream towns are very underdone and plain. I like towns that are hacked, have a design, or both. Those type of towns actually require work. (Even hacking, it's very tedious from what I've heard) I admire the creators of those towns.

i personally used to hack a lot, but after realizing how boring it became when theres no work to be done, i stopped.

that being said, my second characters house is still on the beach as well as a lighthouse, but ive worked for almost all my items, hybrids, bells, etc.

honestly, hacking makes things a lot easier but you do need the vision to figure out what you wanna do with your town. i admire people who can make a beautiful town without hacking because it seems really difficult.
however, hackers arent so bad either. you really have to plan everything out and hacking is rather tedious when compared to normal play.

either way, hacked towns are absolutely beautiful and i love to visit them!

my faves include tumblr users mayor-kyoto and mischa-crossing's towns.

Honestly, I enjoy hacked towns more because there's just too many restrictions with PwP placements, tree placements, etc.

Legit towns are cool too, but it's fun seeing something different one in awhile.

I wouldn't hack my own town, but I do find small, hacked touches really interesting (like a few rocks and weeds in the ponds and rivers). If it's super-over-the-top, it feels like a bit too much. I generally prefer really well-landscaped, non-hacked towns because it takes a lot of work and a clear vision, plus you're working within the limits the game has established. There can be artistry in both regular and hacked towns; the key in either case is finding that sometimes-tough line of great touches versus a landscape-sneeze of stuff.

They'll find a way, they always do. At least with ACNL it doesn't affect other games unlike hacking stats for online multiplayer battles. Those hacks are the ones that trouble me.

Oh man are we allowed to talk about How To Hack on the forum without breaking rules, because now I TOTALLY want to do it to my old town. There should be a hacking sub-forum. I so want in.
