What do you think about villagers in NH compared to NL?

I think they're really great but they're also really different. Like I was overly-attached to Diana in New Leaf but when I brought her into New Horizons, I just kept finding myself forgetting about her. It's super weird and disappointing because design-wise she's my absolute favorite. But I found myself liking Judy more. I had a plan for which villagers I wanted going into New Horizons for who I'd want but my island is nothing like I imagined at all lol. They're different but other than Lobo, none of them were villagers I envisioned myself having.

I like in NH villagers wont go to close to their house whenever you start the game and the fact they start doing more things outside and have more behavior compared to NL . Yet there’s some things I miss from acnl.

I think they've started to unfold and become a little more complex. A lot of my villagers have been in town for more than a month, and I usually talk to everyone once or twice a day. It got a little repetitive up to and right after I got the Resident Services building, but I think they've slowly had more dialogue since as our friendship increases.
Between activity-specific dialogue (sitting, crafting, fishing), talking to each other, talking about events, and all the stuff they do now, I think they're a big improvement.

But two things:
I hated them talking about a "big event" - the fishing tourney? Bunny day? Cherry blossoms? K.K.'s first concert? Why didn't they use the name or have specific dialogue? Especially with all those events stacked up like that.
They also don't ask me for favors, like, EVER. The "do you want this" option is SO boring. I want to hunt for your stupid fish for hours on end instead of hand you whatever crap is in my pocket.

They are what they are. I had hopes they would go back to how they were pre-NL but that's not happening I guess. You would think they would really put more work in the villagers considering NH does not have the town-sim feel like the past titles.

Haha wow, re-reading the thread I guess you guys hated NL's favor/task system? I miss it.
Maybe a "can I get you something?" or "need help?" dialogue would solve both problems.

I can recall the villagers in NH having more fun dialogue than the ones in NL. I remember just the other day I had a Lazy villager tell me about how cars have tons of EXPLOSIONS in them. In NL they just felt like zombies that talked about random things.

Other then that yeah stop talking to me about the random person that I did a trade with.

I love the villagers in NH way too much more than in NL. They’re just more alive now. In NL, they were so robotic that I don’t even like talking to them so much. And they keep repeating tutorial dialogues in NL even if you’re years into playing the game. I don’t know if I’m just lucky but in my NH island, I rarely ever get repeated dialogues even from different villagers of the same personality. Mira, especially, I know has an expansive dialogue. She has so many funny stories. She’s just a crackhead. And so is Merry. She talks like she’s had 10 venti americanos with extra two shots each and I’m living for it. She makes me laugh so much.

I also noticed their personalities in NH is pretty well defined making it easier to give them gifts or landscape around their houses. Like Maple and Marina are both normal but I’ve never seen Marina read a book while Maple rarely puts her book down. Because of this, I made a cozy picnic area near Maple’s house so she has a nice place to read her books. She was there a while ago, sitting in the cushion under the tree in the picnic blanket reading a book. Marina enjoys singing, I noticed. So does Marshal. Plus they most of the time tell you what they want and they have memories like they remember things. If you gift them something they previously gave you they’ll say it looks familiar. Also, they remember scenarios. I know this because I once saw Stitches looking at a cute music player in the store and he told me he can’t stop staring at it and he wants it. When I was back at the store later, I remembered what he said and bought it for him. When I gave it to him after a while he said he’d been wanting it since he saw it at the store so he was so thankful that I got it for him! It’s so cute.

Those are just some of the things I love from the villagers in NH. There’s a lot more I probably forgot to say but definitely, the villagers now are incomparable to NL, at least to me. It’s loads and loads better.
