What do you think about cooking and farming in animal crossing?

I don’t really know how to feel about this. It’s not one of the updates I’m really interested in. I would love if they added pumpkins, but that’s about it. I don’t really care much about planting fruit trees so I feel like it would be the same towards vegetables.

I think it would be wonderful if we can cook. My love of food will be happy. and I also love cooking IRL. But just like Snek said, I think they will make it with DIY recipes. I'd like to farm in animal crossing, we can plant veggies, water them, or even put some special stuff so they can grow faster (though that might be unlikely). I've been thinking that when we eat the foods, we will get special effect like we can swim faster, or make us stronger (like fruits). Long story short, I'm really interested at cooking and farming!

Farming will be added eventually because veggies are in the game's coding. I am guessing around November because that's when the Harvest Festival happened in NL. Just a theory, but I don't think we will "cook" per se but we will probably craft DIY food recipes given by Franklin or obtain the recipes when we collected necessary ingredients. We grow ingredients like potatoes and pick fruit like apples to make recipes like potatoes au gratin or apple pie, which will be nice considering the lack of food furniture in the game.

yeah i don't think you're far off. even though it's a theory, i think it would probably be like that too. not a full blown cooking game that people are expecting. i think those who don't want this kind of feature could be thinking it'd be like that, but my theory too is that it's not gonna be like a cooking game implemented as they're imagining. i get why they think farming could be a chore though. it's just added something to tend to. some would like it, we'd have more to do but i guess others would be lazy to even participate in this.

most ac players are just into aesthetics(◠﹏◠✿)~, they'd want that garden look using custom designs or in game items to make them look like food, but doesn't want to have to deal with actually planting it lol

I have mixed feelings about this feature. Quite honestly I would rather have past furniture sets back along with the food items from ACNL.

Animal Crossing would really become a great game imo. I kinda see where people are coming from saying it would be out of place but I also see it come into play in the game. Especially cooking foods and then gifting the food to the villagers, boosting up their friendship with you. But I don’t want to get my hopes up so high because the food in the datamine could very well just be for the Thanksgiving event, only temporarily.

Honestly I can see it, maybe in November to go along with Thanksgiving and the Harvest Festival to go along with Franklin. I think that Brewster could come back along with this, maybe he'll give you coffee beans to grow or something so you can make your own.

I'm on the fence about it. I like the idea of adding more things to grow - sort of an extension to the orchard - and maybe using those items for either crafting or during the Thanksgiving event. It would be cute to set aside a plot for a few veggies.

On the other hand, I don't want something that will turn AC into a Harvest Moon/Stardew Valley kind of game where you have to do certain tasks in a set time. If I want that limited time stress, I'll play something other than AC.

I think it could be fun, as long as it's handled in a manner consistent to gameplay.

i love harvest moon but i personally don’t think i’d like to see farming in animal crossing; if i want something that involves farming, i’ll just pick up a harvest moon or stardew valley game

cooking, on the other hand, could be neat! i don’t see the vegetables that have been datamined to be for anything besides the harvest festival but you never know! i’d love to be able to bake a birthday cake for my villagers c’:

I really hope that it does get added. It would add some excitement into the game for a lot of people I think. I really hope they release something (if they're even planning on it) in time for fall. It makes so much sense being released in harvest time!

Cooking can't come soon enough, we need some food furniture in this game!

I love the idea of farming, especially for autumn, very festive. I'm planning on putting Tangy in charge of her own orchard/farm area (put the orange in charge of all the fruit) so I'll probably utilise it for decorating purposes.

It will add some depth to the gameplay. So...I appreciate it in that sense.

At a glance, it seems kind of pointless, though...unless the cooked food serves a greater purpose. Like...I guess they could make it so that cooked food is considered a top-tier gift that will greatly raise the friendship level of any villager you give them too. Like...make it so that baking a cake or something will help you get the villager photos much quicker. I think that would be a suitable use for the mechanic.

Eh,if they did add cooking to NH,it would probably be like crafting a DIY: a lot of vegetables and pots and pans flying around while standing in front of some kind of DIY stove.I 'd pass on that.I could get behind some light farming activities if it was simple to do but I think Mr.Wick is probably right.All that stuff found in the datamine is probably just for the Harvest Festival.

Maybe, but nothing wrong with having a discussion of what we’d like to see. Let people have fun making suggestions; it’s not going to hurt anyone by talking about it. I missed Franklin in NL, so either way, it’ll be new to me.

I would love that, especially if each villager had a favorite dish. It would add more things to gift them other than fruit, and cooking them their favorite dishes sounds really cute. Also having cooking contests and being able to sell what we made would be fun. Farming would go well with it too, so say you can grow your own ingredients like vegetables to prepare a salad.

personally, i would absolutely love to combine harvest moon and animal crossing : ))))))) the joy of cultivating crops is so profound.

but i do think i would require an improvement on QOF features, otherwise i'm sure some component of it would be very frustrating and discourage me (we can't even buy or craft in multiples yet! lmfao)

I love this idea! Maybe all of the villagers could have a favourite food and if you cook it for them they will give you a special item?

Also, if this becomes a thing maybe they could also bring back bananas

I have so many mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand, I would love to see more people get interested in farming sims. If that happens, there will be more competition and diversity in the market & we could see more farming games, including increased effort from Marvelous!, as a result. If ACNH is the vehicle to that end, I’d be happy. (altho the exact opposite could happen and animal crossing would accidentally kill the genre)
But I’ve said so before in other threads- this game isn’t LACKING stuff, it’s lacking soul. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but the idea that we will get any kind of robust farm sim out of this game in particular is slim to none. There isn’t enough space on the island to fit a farm. It’s clear the game intended for you to terraform and decorate the island to your aesthetic taste. I agree with some of the other posts- if anything it will be a basic “hobby gardening with vegetables” feature like the flower growing. That’s fine, but I would muuuuch rather they pour effort into features I actually want out of Animal Crossing (like making furniture that’s interactable in Pocket Camp interactable in the main game & adding more quests & interactions to villagers, etc.) instead of quite literally copying flower rigs & reskinning them with new models to “introduce” a “new” feature.

Now cooking on the other hand, would fit perfectly into AC and it’s sort of been a long time coming. I really hope they implement a cooking feature to stay- even if the “cooking” just creates furniture. HOPEFULLY it will be interactable furniture- I would just be AMAZED if my character could finally slurp some ramen at the bar!!!! More interactivity at Brewster’s Café when you help make coffee would be awesome too- like imagine if I could make latte art with custom designs! There are so many possibilities with cooking that fit super well into the series’ design & the “cooking minigame” market is wide open right now. This is a big “YES I WANT” from me!

My post is simple and easy to understand, and it was my opinion.
Something you just said we all should be able to have...

My opinion is, as I said, I think it will be Franklin.
