I tried to fit the whole subject in the topic line and hopefully I didn't fail lol.

So I was FINALLY able to reset my second town (yay!) but now I've reset about 10 times and still haven't found a map I like! Thankfully I just picked a random one, then moved all the bells from my sale to my main town so I could reset faster, but this is exhausting! What's the highest number of resets you've done to find that perfect map??

And that being said, what do you look for in a good map?

Personally I don't like the ones where the river runs really close to one of the borders and makes the land strip super thin. I tend to gravitate toward those ones where there's a little "island" of land off to one of the bottom corners, but I also want a map with two ponds close to each other so I can make a little sitting area between them.

Ponds. Most people dislike them but for me, the more ponds the better. I'm hoping I can get 6 when I make my second town which is the maximum.

i'm one of the few who isn't very picky abt maps. i always pick one of the four rover gives you. however, i do still have things i care about:
- not many thin sections of land (if the river is too off-center, it creates thin sections of land that are hard to decorate bc pwps don't fit, etc.)
- plaza in a nice place (i think it looks good in the far corner or in the middle of the map. really not too picky though, as long as it looks balanced w the river)

otherwise i'm very chill! i like downward facing waterfalls too, but i wouldn't not pick a map just bc it doesnt have one

One single beach, or one big beach with a tiny second beach (that you have to swim to), I personally don't like having two beaches, it's so impractical when fishing. Plaza / Town Hall / Re-tail all well spread out, and that's pretty much it, I also prefer the river to be splitting the town vertically not horizontally.

When I originally picked my map, I didn't care too much about having the "perfect" map, I probably reset it a good few times though, if I was starting again now I'd spend more time and pick a better one, but mines isn't terrible, I quite like it.

I had to pick a new map earlier this week when I bought a second copy of the game. I found my map on the second try.

I looked for the following:
- RV camp entrance on the top right
- a private beach
- no thin strips of land
- an area to put my house which is relatively private

I'm not fussed about rocks and ponds although this map did come with just one pond which made me choose it and have a look around in detail. People make such a fuss over not having multiple ponds that I wanted to see why!

Personally I just look at maps without any set goals and wait for one to inspire me.

My current map won me over with a central peninsula (perfect for the placement of my castle) with a long stretch of empty land underneath it (perfect for a residential area). It also has the ReTail thats really close to the train station with the Town Hall to one side and the Plaza to the other. That set me up for an industrial area of public buildings (ReTail, Town Hall, Police Station, Cafe, Campsite next to the entrance of the RV Camps...) and an arts district (outdoor sculpture museum leading from my plaza to an alts house that will one day be a Theatre / Concert hall when I get my stuff together).

I love my town and really lucked out on the map. It was one of the first 4 Rover showed me...

Ponds. Most people dislike them but for me, the more ponds the better. I'm hoping I can get 6 when I make my second town which is the maximum.

I LOVE ponds!
They're a beautiful, natural part of the town.

You can sculpt around them to make something really spectacular.

I'm lucky enough to have four. ^_^

-houses in corners
-my house near the town
-two ponds, one in top left and the other bottom right
-plaza in the middle bottom
-town hall in the top right
-re-tail in the bottom left
-one beach
-campsite a little below the town hall

i think the highest amount of resets was me doing it for 20 minutes.

-Villager houses in good, uncluttered spaces
-Multiple ponds
-River runs as close to the middle of the map as it can
-Town Hall on top right
-Retail close to the river on top
-plaza as close to the center as possible
-campsite at bottom
-one beach or one beach with small island, only accessible by wetsuit.

I'm not insanely picky, but I do have some things I prefer.

- Re-tail is near the docks, or a straight shot from the dock that I can build a bridge to easily
- Event plaza is by the train station
- There's open space by the train station to build the campsite
- Cliffs on the left
- Private beach
- River goes through the whole town
- I love secluded twists and areas in maps. Perfect for houses and PWPs. I have two "humps" of land in Twoson, one is completely private and has my house, the other has the flower clock and a whole field of blue and pink roses.

1. town plaza along the edge with the campgrounds leading of it*.
2. a nice area up north for the campsite
3. a private area for my house
4. rocks and ponds in acceptable areas, (like corners or enough room for paths) (and as few as possible) I really, really hate weaving around things.
5. no strip land
6. town hall & retail lined up for one path.
7. One big beach with one small private beach, with side ways ramps.
*8. Campgrounds up north so guests don't have to wander all over for rv visits.

I think I spent like 5 1/2 hours resetting for the town that I have. My criteria when I was looking were as follows:

- River as far north as possible (one of the below)
river.jpg
- Very few ponds/rocks
- Town Square next to the Campgrounds
- Retail near the docks
- One long beach
- Either the horizontal ramp down to the beach or the vertical that's surrounded by land on both sides (don't like the inlet one)
- Round grass
- A good secluded spot for my home

Fruit preference in descending order: Peaches > Apples > Cherries > Pears > Oranges (only because my hubby's town is oranges)

i never did map resetting. i just picked the map that had the vertical beach slope.

though what i like in a map is:

-few ponds (my town has only one pond)
-the vertical beach slope
-brown train station & town hall
-town plaza in the side or corner, i dislike it being in the middle
-private beach

I didn't really have anything in mind when I started my town, I just chose a map I liked. Though the beach(s) have to have their own entrance(s). I cycled through several maps where there was a beach w/no enterance. What is that? And I like a river that bisects the town kinda evenly, and has a bend so I can build a bridge diagonally. The map I'm using now has a river like those red or green Tetris pieces(the one that points to the right), w/Retail in the top crook, Event Plaza on the bottom right, campground to the right of the EP, 3 ponds- 2 top right, 1 bottom right, and 2 beaches w/their own entrances. I built my house top left near the smaller beach entrance. Heehee! ^.^

Let's see..

>Closed off area for house
>Retail near the path to the beach for convenient bug selling.
>This might not make a whole lot of sense, but I like the map to be set up for easy pathing. Some maps are harder to path than others, at least in my experience. Especially when there are a lot of annoying rocks.
>I don't like when buildings (town hall, re-tail) are in the middle of the map. I like them grouped together off to the side. Including the plaza.
>Plenty of open room for nice villager house & pwp placement. Also for flower breeding.
>I like a lot of ponds as long as they're not in the way of pathing.
>Straight river, preferably in the middle.
>Apples, oranges, or cherries.

That's about it. I used to reset like mad for a perfect map but since I can edit now I'm not too picky anymore.

A big one for me is not having a fractured beach, considering you can't build a bridge down there to connect them. Something else helpful for me is that building next to the bottom of the map is useful that way villagers don't build directly in front of your house.

it has to have circle grass and either apples, peaches or cherries.

things that would be nice, but i won't reset for:
- retail near beach
- town hall and plaza close to eachother
- plaza not be near tracks
- a private area to put my house
- a strip of land at the top thats facing the ocean

Only cherries (my favorite fruit as you can tell)
Beach is to the left
Plaza, Re-Tail, and Town Hall are all on one side of the river
Two beaches, both with a slope (one's for hybrids, one's for trees)
Campgrounds on top
Lots of ponds

a nice winding river with some peninsulas and oxbows to build my houses

multiple ponds. both of my towns have 3 each :)

retail, town hall and plaza spread out. i dislike everything close together, including my villagers homes. this is a forest not suburbia. yuck.

southern facing waterfall

Any map not having those narrow spaces up north or too weird crooks I can't work around. I mean I try not to sit for too long unless I get really crap villagers but yeah those weird small spaces in the north disturbs me because you can get stuff there but yeah, honestly how many people go there??
