I hope we still have the mansion and all the exterior decorations, but I'd really like them to add a garden. I'm not sure how or if they could add other rooms, but being able to choose a floor plan would be quite cool!

speaking on exterior remodeling, they should give us a catalogue of that stuff too

I'd like to be able to have custom floor plans. I've been bothered by how all rooms have to branch off of the main room of your home as it prevents you from utilizing natural lighting in the main room.
I'd like to branch a room off of the upper or side room instead. Limit us to the same amount of rooms, but let us choose where they should branch off at.
For example, I'd like the following floor plan on my first floor:
Notice how there's an extra room? I'd like to have an extra room on the first floor instead of a basement. Again, I want natural lighting in every room! No damp basements for me.
It'd be even better if it limited you by floor space instead of rooms. I haven't fully expanded my home in New Leaf, despite having more than enough money, because I'm comfortable with the room sizes that I have now. Especially my bedroom, as 6x6 is the perfect size and any bigger would ruin the cozy feeling. If you could have a max amount of floor space instead of a max amount of rooms then that'd be perfect!

Oh right, and they could allow you to have extra rooms in the basement or attic as well! An idea that a friend of mine had was to have a bunch of tiny, 4x4 rooms in their basement and turn it into a large catacomb or mineshaft.

That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking with floor plans, I always found it really hard to decorate the lobby in NL and WW because there isn't much wall to put anything on. It would be nice to have other rooms up stairs or in the basement as well.
Also I feel the same about basing it on floor space, I also didn't fully expand all my rooms. I like the bathroom being 4x4 because in WW 6x6 was too much space, and sometimes having a smaller room just works better.

YES. We need this. And I would like more variation with the exterior design.
For the homes itself: I hope for the 6 rooms we already have + a basement. If they really want to go all out I would like a second upper room. A garden would be nice as well. I would love to put public work projects (like the yellow bench) in front of our homes. We can already do that, but closer to the home would be nice.

More rooms. Ground floor can have up to 4 rooms in NL, but the top floor can only have 1 room? It should be able to have up to 4 as well.
And for that, I hope we get a lot more furniture sets and series in the new game. And hopefully new music as well!

Yes! I'd love to have more house shapes. I really liked being able to choose what the outside of the house was like and there were so many more choices on HHD that I would love to be able to use in a main title, not to mention many more from older games that would be nice to have.

As has been said, everything from HHD - window and door customization, rugs, ceiling furniture, a yard, etc.
Maybe it would also be cool to have a room editor like in HHD, possibly as part of the shop or HHA. You can plan a room with the furniture in your catalog, and then order it all, rather than having to buy stuff and then decorate through trial and error.

And, of course, all the new furniture from Pocket Camp definitely needs to be added.
I also would love good fish tanks, specifically as a decoration element. Either you buy a fish tank and add fish to it, so you can mix fish, or else the fish display as proper group sizes in proper tanks when you set them out, so neon tetras display as a swarm of fish rather than just one, for instance.

i agre with all of the basement and more rooms without expanding existing rooms ideas ! i'd really love to see all of these implemented, and definitely the rest of the stuff from hhd
