What are you doing with your upper levels?

My house is on the third level and I intend to make it look more rustic with a farm on the outside. The third level on the other side of my map houses the campsite. My second level has the museum, a botanical garden (in the works), and 4 villager houses within my Residential District.

I also haven't quite decided 100% where I want to put my third character's house, but it'll likely be on the second level somewhere.

NW upper area is my museum and also eventually an observatory for Celeste, the NE is my campsite.

The area between is my bamboo garden and snapping turtle sanctuary.

3rd levels are used for my house and my son's house. 2nd level are all villagers and some pocket attraction areas. 1st level is where the part is at for easy access.

2nd levels have my shopping district, my house and another character’s house. 3rd level is my celestial themed campground c:

my island is a HUGE wip ( everything to the right hasnt been touched yet, and im still working on the left mountain!!!) but im using the moutains /cliffs to break up the scenery, if that makes sense!! i like that i put my able sisters on a cliff behind nooks cranny, you get to it by walking on a ledge that goes behind the store so its a two level shopping market!!! im going to use that kind of stacking idea for everyones homes, as well. im thinking of having two live on the 1st level with like, a fishing pond taking up some space, and right behind their houses will be a ledge to another two houses!!!

ive also been adding smaller cliffs to line certain areas, like my bottom right forrest area has a bit of rounded cliffs with a tree / flowers growing on them to look more shaded, like a real forest !!!!

terraforming takes....a Long time...but its so fun to get lost in it all !!!

im planning on making a huge mountain on my island, first layer, shops, second layer homes, third layer, my house lol

Right now my house is up there and I was gonna add things like a zen garden. However, I'm slowly hating how I redesigned my map so I might change it. Seeing other people's bonkers maps is making mine feel so boring lol.

I use the cliffs in a similar way! I've got cliffs practically everywhere near my entrance just to make some waterfalls and put some flowers, log stakes, bushes, and trees just to add something to the scenery.

But thinking about using cliffs to actually build something on them gives me anxiety lmao like the entire north and west sides of my island are just barren leveled land and I don't know where to start... but I'll get there.

(I really like your idea of the stacked Cranny + Ables!)

Thank you so much!!!! its what started me finally getting into terraforming so its my little pet project hehe !!!
AND YESSS...LOG STAKES ADD SO MUCH!!! i bet ur cliffs look really cool!!

its defiantly Hard to do because if you misplace or change your mind and you want to edit part of the cliff or the whole thing its so much effort to move everything 😭😭 i was so scared to place my house down because i dont know how big of a yard or what i want around it

My house is up on the top left. There was a pond and waterfall on that level, and I added some waterfalls spilling around into the river below. Lots of cedar trees. I have one other 3rd level spot, and I left that as ladder-only so I can put my hybrid for breeding, without worry that villagers will get into it.

It's the most natural, unsculpted portion of my island, but that's by design. I like having it be denser forest areas and lighter meadow sections.

My villagers live in the next level down (actually the first level, but on the other side of the river, and the "business section" is at the front, closest to the airport.

added my house to the third level, and my flower and turnips farms along with the museum and its accompanying ice cream shop on the second level :>

Oh, they will reach it.

So far none of them have. (Except for Nan on my birthday, but then I guess that's the game that's programmed to have your favorite villager pick you up regardless of where your house is located. And Tom Nook came by as well the morning after KK Slider's first concert but then I assume he has a Nook, Inc. helicopter, haha.) I hope it stays that way, lol! I mean I do like most of my villagers - I just prefer living away from busy places.

I’m planning to make the upper part of my island a “national park” in a sense. Moved my campsite up there to be built around, then I’ll add areas with lots of cedars and bamboo, a meadow area and a little cafe maybe.

I still have to shave off some parts of the upper level to make room to place my villagers’ houses before I get to that, though.

i've got my house up on the mid-tier level (originally wanted a waterfall surrounding it, i dunno if i'm going to do that anymore). my campsite is on the highest level. most of it is very forested with little decoration (exception probably being a single wishing well) and with lots of flowers + natural ponds. my lower level is pretty manicured so i like having a blank upper level(s) for now but that may change in the future!

Im planning on having an amusement park
So far on my first level of cliff I have a rainbow garden
I also want to maybe make like a national park but im not sure yet

70% of my town is an "upper" level, so I have quite a few town features on it. The few things that aren't on the upper levels are my shops and resident services, and I think 2 villager houses

I'm planning to put my house on the third level of the town and the second level will be some houses and a hybrid farm and more planned areas.

I placed my house on the left corner of the map on top of a hill with some villagers in the lower levels since I wanted to create a sloping alleyway look. On the other side I’m going to place a Ryokan or Japanese Hot Spring Resort on top of tier 3. Next to that, I placed a 2 tier waterfall with a viewing platform on tier 2. Next to that is a cafe area on tier 3 and a garden on tier 2. Would be putting an orchard to the left of the garden on tier 2.

Do you have inclines leading there? Not having one may be the only thing stopping them. I have a ramp leading to a 3rd layer cliff where my home is, and one day I start up the game and exit my house to find my uchi just wondering around in my back yard.
