It's a cold and gloomy winter day here in California.
I'm in the mood for some holiday movies! Any recommendations? ^^

Well, I have a few suggestions. You might like them or hate them, but I always saw them as feel-good films for Christmas. So my ideas for you are:

The Nightmare before Christmas.
The Polar Express
Elf
A Christmas Carol (Any of them, you can't go wrong really.)
Miracle on 34th Street
Rise of the Guardians (Okay, not necessarily a Christmas movie, but it's still a feel-good film and Santa is a major character.)

Olive the other Reindeer, Mickey Mouse Twice Upon a Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and A Charlie Brown Christmas

Oh and since your also from Cali you might want to see How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Shrek the Halls on ABC at 8pm.

Scrooged, with Bill Murray. Its awesome. :)

Home Alone
Polar Express
The Grinch
Rise of the Guardians
Olive the other Reindeer

Are some of my favorites. :)

Must watch movies every year:
(best movie ever): A Christmas Story.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
Elf.

Well, since I'm such a big movie buff, I can name some films to watch on Christmas:

It's A Wonderful Life - Not only is it my favourite film to watch every Christmas, but also one of my favourite films of all time. Among my top 50 favourite films at the moment.

Joyeux Noel - A great story about the Christmas truce during WWI.

Die Hard - Oddly, this is not your typical "Christmas" film. But we just watch it every Christmas because... That's when the film takes place.

A Christmas Story - Surprisingly, despite my immense love for films, I have not seen this film, and I'm ashamed to admit that. But I've remembered hearing it is such a great holiday film.

Meet Me in St. Louis - One of my favourite Christmas musicals... Never get tired of Judy Garland in here.

Miracle on 34th Street - Another Christmas classic which I surprisingly haven't seen yet...

Home Alone - Of course this has to be on everyone's list of the best films to watch every Christmas.

Any adaptation of A Christmas Carol - Who wouldn't have this on their list?

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! - Never get tired of seeing this one. (and by that I'm referring to the animated one) The live-action one did have a few funny moments, but it was pretty silly.

Charlie Brown Christmas and Its Christmastime again Charlie Brown!... you just cant do without those.

also

The animated Grinch

Donovans Reef

Patton

The Matador

all good movies to watch around christmas time

dont bother with Elf, Home Alone, and the other (newer non animated) Grinch. Theyre overrated.

I tried to edit my last post but it wouldnt let me save, I forgot to add the first harry potter movie (is my personal favorite christmas movie) and the james bond movies (just bec. some stations do a 007 days of christmas thing on tv)

Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Elf, Bridget Jones Diary and How the Grinch Stole Christmas are my favorites.

Polar Express
A Christmas Carol
A Charlie Brown Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Home Alone
(not really a Christmas movie, but it was good) Rise of the Guardians

so yeah. :3

Well, since I'm such a big movie buff, I can name some films to watch on Christmas:

How did I know you'd be here?

To me, Elf is like a mixture of Christmas magic and funniness. A film of Christmas magic and funniness is beyond my favourite genre of Christmas films. I'd go with that.

Home Alone, Christmas Vacation, Elf, Bridget Jones Diary and How the Grinch Stole Christmas are my favorites.

Yes.

Elf and Bridget Jones Diary are feel-good movies, like sipping on hot chocolate.

Note to OP:

Elf may be a hit or miss for some people, because there are people who think Will Ferrell's naive character is annoying. I personally like his child-like character he portrayed in Elf, unlike his arrogant Ron Burgandy character from Anchorman. I think he's actually adorable when he plays innocent characters (kind of like that man from the Mean Landlord video). Oh, and Zooey Deschanel is it, and this time she's not the manic pixie dream girl since Ferell kinda played the manic pixie dream boy.

Bridget Jones Diaries is pretty funny. The target audience for this movie is usually 18- 20's ladies, but I was sixteen when I discovered that movie. I thought it was cute then, and I still think it's cute now.

The Lifetime channel airs some pretty interesting Holiday stuff. Lol. Their movies are kind of "cheap", but it's still something! There are a lot of movies about family and love <3!

I don't know if you're into non-English sophisticated films, but Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander takes place during Winter Holidays-- you can get a glimpse of how Yule is celebrated in the 1900s.

The Muppets Christmas Carol-- again, this movie is really cute and funny. Heck, any Muppet movies are great Christmas movies even if they don't take place during winter time.

Christmas on Mars-- you might not like this one since this is sci-fi musical (experimental, psychedelic) featuring the Flaming Lips, but I'm just going to throw this in for others.

T.V. Shows + Christmas Specials:

Hey Arnold

PBS Arthur

Rugrats (family traditions, multi-cultural-- I can totally relate to the Rugrats babies with their experiences)

Adventure Time-- Yay, Christmas sweaters.

The Muppet Show
