When you're playing against a random person, and you like playing against the person, you can add him to your "Rival's List", which is basically the same as adding a friend but without Friend Codes and without communicaton.

Its also for REVENGE against someone you randomly met.

but in order for it to work they need to add you too, so most of the time nothing happens.
