A friendly desert community where the sun is hot, the moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep. Welcome to Night Vale.

Welcome to Night Vale (WTNV) is a podcast that was made to sound like a radio show for a small desert town. You can download all the episodes as separate .mp3s here and the official website is here. Night Vale is described as a very scientifically interesting town for the following reasons: catastrophic earthquakes that nobody feels, people do not believe in mountains, librarians and libraries are terrifying, and the floating male cat in the men's bathroom at Night Vale Community Radio Station had kittens.

Yeeees! My favorite Podcast! I had tried getting into others before it but just didn't enjoy them. But WtN brought me around, now I listen to tons of podcasts but this one will always be my favorite

The newest episode, The University of What It Is (55), was released yesterday.
A representative from the University of What It Is calls the station to find a missing colleague. Plus, an update on the cats, the Barista Cultural Fair, and corrections.
It is available for download.

I've listened to all the episodes except Condos, The Debate, the Adventure Hour one, and the newest episode. I kinda want to make a game about it where you play as a Night Vale Community Radio intern.

An update on the cats-yay! Haha

And I would definitely play that game! I think there are a lot of listeners who would enjoy interning...or maybe not, since we all know what happens to interns ;)

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS I absolutely adore Night Vale. Like I can't put into words how great it is and how happy it makes me listening to those podcasts. I seriously wanna go to one of their live shows. They are doing a few live recordings in October but the nearest place to me is London, and that's still a fair distance away. Plus I hate going to London.

I just love creepy things and their word choice just makes things so superbly freaky and I just.

It's fantastic and super great and I'm always forcing people to listen to it because it is flawless.

I used to like it, but the fandom is awful, and I lost interest.

That actually is a good point. There is a lot of fandom extremely concerned with shipping which I literally have zero interest in. And seriously some people get really riled up about their ships. To a point where they send anon hate. Scary.

Yeah, I mean the go-to answer is, "Well just ignore the fandom!" But that doesn't actually solve anything. All people should be able to contribute ideas and fellowship over a common interest. Hostility is aggravating and takes away from the enjoyment of something once creative and inspiring.

Another kinda special aspect of the fandom is that there are few clues as to how the characters look. So, as you probably know, the ethnicities/skin colours of the characters are hotly debated. Tumblr in particular is pretty big on its social justice, so if you dare suggest that you don't imagine a character from the show in the same way they do, you get 'racist' and even on occasion 'transphobic' thrown at you.

I mean there are some fantastic people in the fandom and there are crazies in every fandom. And it's just unfortunately that the loudest vessels are often the emptiest. But seriously sometimes I browse the tumblr tags and it's just people debating what skin colour Cecil and Carlos have and I'm just like ugh.

I'm interested in other people's ideas about the origins of various things within the shows and the consequences of the events. I do not care about what the main characters think of each other's hair. And I am not a homophobe for not caring. Sry.

But yeah it is a seriously genius concept and hats off to the creators. It's such a unique idea and their execution of it is fabulous.

the only thing that is canon is carlo's beautiful hair. (also that strong jaw.)

i once said in the tags of a tumblr reblog that chihiro from dg was a male while the op of the post said they were female. the op sent an ask t me about it and called me transphobic while i explained that it was said that chihiro is a male who dressed like a female in the game but that if they headcanoned them differently, that was fine. then they stopped sending me asks lmao.
