Does anyone here lift weights often? Lately I've gotten back in to swimming, (Laps for at least an hour, 3-4 times a week) and I've kinda plateaued. I've always been more of a cardio guy, and all my friends are worthless when it comes to something other than cardio, so I'm asking an online Animal Crossing forum for help.

How can I get in to weight lifting? I have access to a gym (which is where I swim), but I don't want to look like an idiot and hurt myself.

Yeah, I have 5 lbers as well, but I can do too many reps with them so they are kinda worthless.

Can you tell me what you used to do when you had heavier free weights?

I was always more of a cardio person too. Need to get back to the gym again. >.>

Erm, are there any trainers at the gym that could just set you up on a routine? Not sure if it'd cost you, but it was free with the membership where I went.

I do. Around 45/80, whatever my muscles will allow me. I work out my whole body, and I play raquetball. That's a painful sport.

ok if you are a swimmer you need to be able to lift your weight and nothing more you want to be in shape and tone not look like the Hulk because muscle is 2x heaver than fat so you shouldn't really be doing weight training i suggest running or wii fit. and remember that you also need to eat healthy drink plenty of water and NO SOADA.

ok ill started out with 25lbs dumbells then i got me a bar do i could lift more now i can deadlift about 480lbs but i also have a martial arts background so i still maintain spped able to keep myself balanced

An important fact that is often missed is that you shouldn't be lifting weights til you're 18, until then you run a fair risk of pulling something that won't go back together. By 18 your body will be fully developed (about fully) and this risk will be gone.

i lol'd. :throwingrottenapples:

Start with smaller weights to begin or you will pull a muscle then gradually work up the weights. :)

I don't weight lift as of today....I wrestle and am built from basic push ups and sit ups but I simply don't have the time to leave the house to weight lift anymore.
