Void Character transfer with one game and two switches?

Sorry in advance if this has already been asked, but I scoured google and found no answer to my question! ^^;;

My boyfriend and I both own switches (He has the regular and I have the lite), and we share one copy of ACNH between us. We both have our own islands on our own switches (since nintendo allows for one island per switch).

Lucky him, he randomly got Judy to move into his island and I really want her on mine. Unfortunately since we both have one copy of ACNH, it's not a simple situation where I can go to his island and pick her up when she's in boxes (since we can only play the game one at a time). We don't want to purchase another copy of the game just so we can transfer villagers (at least, not when the game is full price, yikes).

So I'm wondering if void mechanics might work in this scenario? Neither of us have been to the other's island, but we are the only ones on each other's friends list. If he voided Judy and I had a free plot, would that mean Judy would be able to come over to my island as a voided transfer? Or will nothing happen because we've never visited each other's island?

If anyone has an answer, I'd really appreciate it! <3

I don't think it's safe to move her out and try to pick her up from the Void. I could be wrong, but it's not a 100% chance that she'll move into your island, so you run the risk of losing her. The only option I could think of would be to move her onto someone else's island, have them kick her out, and then invite her onto yours. I'm actually dealing with the same thing with my little brother, but I think he's planning on getting a second copy soon, so that's lucky. If you'd like, I could try to free up a plot tomorrow and then kick her via amiibo for you 🙂. And if this makes you skeptical at all (which I totally would understand) you could try asking around for someone with more feedback to hold her. Just trying to help <3, I really don't want you to lose her!

I don't think that would be possible.
Also, the void works in a funny way where villagers can be queued up in your void if you've been doing online trades so it's also very possible you could end up with a completely different "voided" villager altogether.

I’m pretty sure you need to actually visit each other in game, although I can’t find anything on google about it either! I wouldn’t risk losing her though, as the above poster said, I think the best plan would be for someone to hold her for you ^^

My question to you OP, is how do you get your boyfriend to play games that don’t involve zombies, or guns? 🙃 asking for myself.

"Neither of us have been to the other's island, but we are the only ones on each other's friends list."

How are you on each other's friends list without having visited each other? Can you send mail and such? Or do you mean the Switch friends?

I'm pretty sure you need to visit or have visited before to get from their void. My villagers lately have been mentioning random people who visited my island for trades and saying "I wonder what it's like..." So I think just being friends doesn't really matter. If he's been doing trades or visited anyone, she very well could go to one of them... especially if she's never mentioned you and has no link to you.

Oof, I was afraid of that! I know that there is a cheaty and headache method of playing the digital copy of the game between two consoles at the same time, but we only have the physical copy so we can't use that method T_T

He hasn't voided any villagers yet, but the void seems so unreliable, and we don't want to risk losing Judy. Also, since we haven't been to each other's islands, we're not on each other's in-game friends list either =(

He literally started his island as a joke and I slowly watched him spiral into getting more and more involved in his game. XD Luckily for me, we both have different working hours, so sharing a game hasn't been an issue until now.

I'm pretty sure the only way to get a villager from someone's void is for one of the players to visit the other player's island. It is direct island-visiting contact that causes villagers from the void to move into an island. I think the only way for you to get a villager from one island to the other is to get a second copy of the game and have one of you visit the other.

I'm not sure how it works, but could you borrow someone's game (if either of you know anyone in real life who plays and has a physical copy) just so you can visit and grab her once in boxes? Or you might want to see if you can rent the game from someone or somewhere.

Unfortunately only one of my friends owns animal crossing and because we're all practicing social distancing, the option to go over and borrow her game isn't reasonable to us at this time XD And even though she's a friend, I don't think she's close enough for me to trust my password info with (to have her log in as me). Plus, she already has Judy *internal jealous screaming* so having her be our in-between isn't a viable option T_T

Ah well, at this point I guess it's fruitless to find a way to get his Judy. If I knew this was going to be an issue, I would've bought the digital copy of the game instead of the physical one! (although I did get the cute pre-order journal with the purchase lol)
