Visiting an old villager in a different town

Hello hello, I've got another question ;;;
Let's say someone is holding a villager for me, if I visit that villager in their town, will they still remember me? And will they forget about me once I'm done with the 16 villager cycle?

yes, they will remember you when nibbles moved out on me and went to my friend's town, i went to visit and to my surprise she recognized me and was happy to see me! but... as for the 16 cycle question... i have NO idea. ): im sorry ><

They'll remember you in that town if you come to pick them up after a 16 cycle, they say something along the lines of "Wow! We get to be neighbors again!" but once they move back in they act as if they have never been in your town before. It's like they have Alzheimers :c

This is probably one of the most depressing things I've ever heard. I don't want any of my villagers to leave now.
