Villagers you wouldn't have searched for, but are now permanent residents?

I found Piper on my first nm island and took her to fill up my town, but now I'm really attached to her and she is now my permanent peppy for nh

at first i was like, eh hes okay ill keep him because i dont have a cranky- but he really grew on me! after i finished decorating the outside of his house i decided to keep him for a while and then on one rainy day i decided to gift him one of those straw umbrella hats - you know, the big ones that are super long and are supposed to cover your entire body from the rain? anyways, he put it on and...

Spork! I was so prepared to move him out when it was time for Apollo to move in via Amiibo, but when the time came I couldn’t bear to part with him. Instead, I’m moving my dreamy Erik off temporarily (so long sweet friend, until we meet again 
) since I also have his Amiibo.
I never would have looked for a pig villager, let alone Spork specifically, but the game forced me to pick a lazy and I got desperate. I’m not sure he’ll be 100% permanent, but he’s staying for the foreseeable future!

Gruff. He was a very early-game camper, while my S.O. was still playing most days, and he HAD to get Gruff to move in. He reminds of us a good friend who just moved out of the country, and I feel like his aged-rockabilly vibe is unique among crankies. "Permanent" is a strong term, but Gruff ain't goin' anywhere any time soon.
I agree about Gruff. I didn't choose him but gave him a chance and now he is permanent. Even the other villagers like him and give him gifts for me to delivery just to be nice, not because of a fight. He's like a father figure watching out for me on the island. He's really sweet and his dialogue isn't boring and repetitive. I adore him.

I randomly took Soleil in off a mystery island when I first started playing cause I had barely any tickets. I thought she was better then taking the chance at a random move in but now I've grow fond of her.

He is one of my first 5 starter villagers, and the only one left, because I have no plans to move him out. This little guy has endeared himself to me so much, even I can't explain it. I look for him every day to talk to him and give him fruit or a new shirt. One time, I couldn't find him, and I just panicked. I ran around all over the island like a headless chicken until I found him. It's... weird. I can't explain it. I just love Claude.

Hopkins. I never knew about him and someone made an ugly list and threw Hopkins on there. I was so upset that they put that cute rabbit on an ugly list. 
Then my brother saw him on a Nook Miles Island and I told my brother to have him move in. So now he's a permanent resident.

Benedict! He was my random move-in out of my Normal/Lazy/Peppy Trio because I didn’t realize I shouldn’t complete all the houses at once. I might let him move out someday far down the road, but I’ve grown to love him SO much. His facial expressions are hilarious and the chicken + raincoat combo is amazing.
Honorable mentions: Huck, my forced camper, was not one I ever would have chosen, but I adore his dialogue and his little mouth cracks me up now. Bubbles was an early mystery island find; I’ve always found her cute but I didn’t expect to love her so much so fast. All three might end up sticking around for good. (I don’t have specific dreamies for this game, so I don’t know for sure.)

Bea! I love the little blush / sunburn that she has! I was planning on looking for goldie as a dog villager but i ended up loving bea!
kid cat and zucker! my initial villager plans had bam as my jock and beau as my lazy. kid cat was my starter jock and i grew attached to him in less than a week so he’s now my permanent jock. and zucker i invited from an island tour as i knew a lot of people were searching for him but i wound up growing attached to him, too, and now he’s also a permanent villager 
Omg! I came here to say this! Tasha is amazing, I have completely fallen for her. Why is she not more popular??!

for me it was julia and she started my chocobo farm. one measly ostrich made me change my whole line.
