Have your villagers ever stolen a catchphrase from a fellow villager?

Right now, all my villagers have catchphrases that are not their own.

I have antipathy for this, considering the fact that as of right now, the catchphrase 'pip pip ho!' is being said by Pecan when I made it for Pippy >.<

Does anyone else dislike this?

Yep. I once tried to give my villagers catchphrases I thought were appropriate for their animal type (cluck cluck for Broffina and oink oink for Chops). Then they all stole one anothers and my town became an extremely confused zoo.

devs hahaa

Nope. It lets you think that they are friends and like someone and their catchphrase enough to copy it. It's easy enough to eventually change it back.

I'm amused when they ask me to change their catchphrase, I agree, and stick them with the exact one they already have. They don't know the difference and are grateful.

"Should I keep saying stuffin'?"

"Nah, say stuffin' instead."

"I feel like a new bear, stuffin'!"

Yup. Most of my villagers are saying O'hares catchphrase 'amigo' and wearing his shirt. It gets a little creepy at times though. Once when a friend came to visit they were like what?

Lately, Hamlet has been saying 'sulky', which is Marshal's catchphrase.
I can totally imagine little Jock hamster talking to Marshal, asking for advices to be 'cool'. It's pretty pathetic but I find it cute.

They do this aaaaallllllllllll the time. Sometimes it's kinda cute and sometimes it's annoying; mainly when phrases that are specifically for one villager spread to another that it's completely inappropriate for such as Fauna saying 'peasant' which was meant for Yuka.

I just made a post about this in another thread, woah! :0 Yeah my villagers do it all the time and I don't like it! :( I want them to be original and not copy other catchphrases!!! Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?

My villagers back in City Folk did that all the time.
In New Leaf, Punchy stole Rooney's catchphrase of "rooroorooo" (I'm not creative, yes I know. To the shame corner I go...), but that's about it when it comes to "stealing" catchphrases.

Nope. That's just how your villagers interact with one another. The best you can do is actively change their catchphrases back whenever they prompt you to do so.

As I said in the other thread, the only way to prevent it is to limit the amount of time you spend outside in your village. The longer the villagers wander around, the more time they have to talk and trade phrases and clothes. When you enter houses or save and continue, it breaks this up. If you save after they made the trade, though, it's locked in.

It's happened to me before. Not much you can do about it. Yes, I do dislike the feature myself, I do indeed wish that they'd change it. But, it's not too much of an issue in my honest opinion.

happens to me all of the time. i don't really care about it, it gives me some insight as to who they're getting close with at the moment. they ask for new catchphrases all of the time anyways so i can merely change it if i don't like it.

I once changed Fang's catchphrase to "ahroo" to imitate a wolf howl and Punchy started using it.

Flora stole Goldie's catchphrase.. so now I have a flamingo saying woof.. it's great
