My town had a fishing tourney where any fish was allowed and the best any of the other villagers could do was a horse mackerel. I feel really sorry for them. They had 9 hours to find the biggest fish they could and they couldn't do any better than a horse mackerel. And those were the second and third place finishers. I'd like to know what that 10th place villager turns in. A sea butterfly? Chip really wants to tell them "WTF is wrong with you?" during the awards ceremony.

My villagers are even worse at fishing. My most recent Fishing Tourney had both the second place and third place villagers won with 3.5-inch bitterlings. Either my villagers are incredibly lazy, or that they're just terrible fishers. :P

Not my villagers, they always turn in the biggest sea bass they can catch. But for some reason they always ping me to catch fish.

I caught a simple black bass, but simply no one was ever able to beat me. I think the 2nd placer was a freaking horse mackerel and third, uhh... I don't remember but I remember it being really small. Probably a tadpole or something.

Maybe it depends on personality type, species, or size of the player character submissions then. My villagers always submit really big fish even when the type is restricted.

yeah they do suck. even when I half-ass it and turn in one fish I either win or get second place. I've never even gotten any third place trophies from fishing or bug-hunting and I want that bronze trophy for my catalogue, dammit!!

Villagers seem to "submit" large fish for the single type tourneys for some reason which is weird. I wonder why it is extremely easy to win one type of tourney, but in the other type, villagers will sometimes have large fish which are almost impossible to beat. For the any-type tournaments, you can always go to the island and catch a shark and automatically win even if a villager gets a really large sea bass, but most of the time they top out at something like a horse mackerel so it's not worth wasting a valuable fish.

Yeah. Finishing in third is much harder than winning.

I won with a sea bass. Second place also had a sea bass, but his was 2 cm shorter than mine. Ha! Take that, Axel.

Yeah. Finishing in third is much harder than winning.

My mayor submitted an ocean sunfish from the island once and then my side character got lucky and caught an oarfish in my town in the last half hour.

My villagers also submitted bitterlings only, lol. I didn't want to win, actually. I just wanted the red-snapper sofa, since it's the only piece of furniture I don't have, but I won and I didn't get it.

I swear to god the villagers in my town talk so big when it comes to the fishing tourneys, and act like they are going to win, but the most they ever come up with is a horse mackerel or trout or whatever. I think Henry was pretty rubbish fisher despite being a frog- however he was good at the bug tourneys...

Yup, my villager for 3rd place caught a really small tadpole, and 2nd place caught a horse mackerel, where I caught a 235 inch oarfish...gg..

Ya thats what happened to me xD My fish was around 20 in. and 2nd and 3rd place was around 5 and 7 :(

I remember one of my villagers coming first place with a sea bass. A sea bass. Just let that sink in. I probably would've beat them if I tried, but I didn't feel like competing with them on that day, infact I rarely ever take part in the fishing tourney tbh. I came third in the most recent tourney.

Ikr! My villagers are hilarious! I went near the end of it ~4:30 and I turned in an 8.30 inch bluegill...I was in first for that :O

Going to check who won now

This fishing tournament the villagers turned in small bitterlings. The last fish I caught was an Oarfish so I turned it in.

If you want to win 3rd place send out one of your extra players.

This is super funny. Yeah, I always think this and chuckle whenever one of these contests come through my town. How can they be so bad?!?

Yeah, in my experience it's always "Villagers totally suck at any-fish tourneys but rock the socks off of single-fish ones". In the latest all-fishes tourney, I caught a 230-in Oarfish while the other two both turned in horse mackerels.

But for last month's crucian carp tourney, I turned in an 8.95in specimen shortly after the tourney started, and was told that I was in second place (already!?) to Savannah's 9.3in entry. I later caught a 9.5in crucian carp in case I felt like winning, but held back since it was an opportunity to get myself a silver trophy for the catalog.

Which ended up becoming bronze when Rosie turned in a 9.8inch fish. For the record, my largest crucian carp catch ever was 9.9 inches.
