I already know the answer to this question however im starting to doubt as ive heard a few people say that when their villager wanted to leave they only had 2 goodbye options...and some immediately are in boxes without them even seeing the cloud dialogue or if you miss the cloud dialouge theyll move on...perhaps thats a glitch? or maybe they can really leave without your consent but only little chances? There are also people who get mad when a visitor talks to their villagers bc they accuse the visitor as "stealing their villagers" which i know sounds dumb af but just wanted to confirm if maybe someone else had this experience?

I haven't heard of that.
All I know that is, unlike in NL, once you give them the okay to go, there's no going back - as in, you can't talk them out of it or make them change their mind and they're also in boxes the very next day.
Also, a thought bubble will appear over their head but it doesn't have to be the first thing you see when talking to that villager on said day. So you can have several convos with that villager and then later see that they have a bubble and will ask you to move.
As for the dialogue options - I can only see that they could be perceived as confusing in some cases - for example "I wish you luck" - which would mean "good bye" instead of something as obvious as "please don't leave".

So I guess if you skip over the dialogue and accidentally allow them to leave, you could be screwed that way.
I don't see how it would be possible to steal a villager from another player unless they were in boxes and someone asked them to move against the host's consent.
The only way you could potentially wind up with the villager, is if they were voided and ended up on the Island of the visiting person.

I can't answer the first question as I've only had one villager leave and she asked if she could. I'm really curious about the "stealing villagers" thing too. I've had plenty of people visit and only be on my island for like 2 minutes and none of my villagers be anywhere near my visitor or me for my villager the next day to be like "so Blanky from Blankyland visited. Blankyland is really far away. I want to go to Blankyland someday." If the villagers already hint at maybe leaving one day I don't know if talking really affects anything unless the villager is already in boxes. I could be wrong though. We need someone else who has actual proof that a visitor talking to a villager can cause that villager to leave. However, with that said I agree with cheezu. I don't see how someone could "steal" a villager. I could see a visitor talking to a villager maybe increasing that villagers chances of asking to move out, but not getting the villager to leave without asking first.

thank you!! hope you dont mind me asking on the dialogue part, do you mean that some choices can become misleading/misconception to people that they think its the same option?
and by accidently allow them to leave do you mean rushing the dialogue only to accidently clicked them to leave part? sorry for asking alot i just got my dreamies and im a little busy in real life so i got scared that if i dont pay attention they leave rip asjldas

I have hosted several DIY openings and all my villagers have stayed, I can't answer the moving on their own part.
thank you for answering my question! have they not mentioned about said person when your visitors talked to them? :0

Yes, a bit misleading.
I think an option I got from Wolfgang was something along the lines of "Good luck" for the leaving part (can't quote it exactly as I don't remember). Another one was "I'll see you around". So I guess, it could be misleading to some. It's a bit similar with one camper villager I got yesterday who insisted on moving in. I mean, when you read carefully, you should be okay but I guess it's easy to skip over it and accidentally click on the wrong thing if that makes sense.

See... that part I haven't tested.
I'm not sure at which point the game autosaves here but, hopefully, it's after you make your selection.

The only thing about the his that I could say is about the possibility of "stealing" villagers.

I don't know if the Camofrog I have was "stolen" or if the previous "owner" moved him out normally (either by allowing him to move, or forcing him out via amiibo/campsite). All I know is that he said he came from the island of someone I visited (I don't remember who's island it was). And I know for a fact that o spoke with a Camofrog when I was visiting an island early in the game, but he wasn't in boxes and he also didn't talk about moving either.

maybe thats a void villager? ive been hearing that you can get someones void villager if you visit their island :0 but if thats true and the previous person isnt aware that would just increase people's anxiety over bringing visitors over esp if that people have set of dreamies :((

I don't think he's a void villager because his house isn't glitched.

i don't think void villagers houses need to be glitched necessarily! during one of my delivery runs, someone seemed to have voided wolfgang. he didn't appear until WAY later in my village when i had an actual open plot unattended for a day or two, but he moved in and stated that he came from x island, where i went to visit y person. i never talked to him and really just dropped off what the person had asked for, his house seems to be his. i also picked up anabelle out of the void of a friend, and her house was normal too.

so if anyone is looking for their wolfgang and wants them back, please hmu.

Are there any solid prove of that 2 goodbye options? my my villagers have asked to move out 3-4 times. And none of them have that 2 goodbye options. I just wanna remind you that you cannot believe everything you heard from ppl on the internet most of the time they are exaggerate and false. I also host my island a lot as well, nothing bad really happen.

Ahh i see, andbdhd yeah, sorry maybe its just like one of the people here said maybe it really is a misconception? Like maybe that person thought the options had the same meaning 😖

I have a hunch that any villagers moving out "seemingly randomly" is due to this nasty glitch. The hallmark of this glitch is a villager moving in will display the, "I've moved out," text on their plot instead of properly moving in. I've heard of some accounts where a villager was adopted, and seemed to be fine, but then glitched out a few days later, seemingly moving out without a word, even though they may have been glitched from the start.

I've only had one move-out request, and the, "Please stay!" option was the default top option, while the, "Goodbye!" option was on the bottom, which makes sense to me. So even if you're button-mashing, unless you happen to accidentally press up or down at exactly the wrong time, the villager will stay. I honestly can't fathom how a villager could move out by accident even if you're button mashing. There's always been rumors and misconceptions touted as fact about villagers moving in and out, things like, if you're mean to them, they'll move. So unless I see actual proof otherwise that can't be explained by the glitch, it's probably false.

this, i’ve had tons of move out requests from TTing and the “please stay!” option is ALWAYS the top with the “goodbye!” option always being the bottom. i’ve also never seen 2 goodbye options and have TTed weeks or months at a time without anyone moving who didn’t ask to.
