I have seen postings that state a villager is in original condition, what exactly does this mean? Is one able to get a current villager that is moving back to original state before they trade? And if they are, how is this done?

Thanks!

nah, not without sending them back all their original furniture (and even then there's a huge chance they won't put it in their house)
the request for an 'original villager' is absurd to me, if you like a villager then surely it shouldn't matter what their shirt/house/catchphrase etc is?
if you plan on keeping the villager their line-up is going to change anyway from doing favours etc
its a ridiculous and stupid concept

Basically means they're in their original form, with their original shirt, catchphrase, and all their original furniture, as if they've only just moved into your town and haven't been changed at all c:

There are several aspects about a villager that can change: their greeting, their catchphrase, their shirt and their house. All of these change through normal playing - sometimes they will get the catchphrase of another villager, or their shirt, or if you give them a shirt they might wear it or put it in their house. Similarly, any furniture you send them will be in their house and they can sell their furniture in Re-Tail.

I like to keep my villagers as original as possible - which means not changing their catchphrase or greeting, or if they change it, trying to change it back. If they wear a different shirt , send them the old one in the mail and there's a 50% they'll wear it. The house is more tricky - I always keep my Re-Tail full of perfect peaches for sale at 999,999 bells so no villager will ever buy them and there are no empty slots for them to sell their furniture. If a villager has messed up their house, you can send them their correct furniture in the mail (though there's no guarantees about where they'll put it) and when a villager invites you round, they will offer to sell you one of their items, so you can clean up unwanted stuff that way.

Hope this helps!

I can understand it to some degree. It doesn't matter as much to me whether or not the villager is original, but it's important to me what the villager's catchphrase is. I've seen lots of people give their villagers really obscene and immature catchphrases/first letters (and that's not even getting into what kind of stuff you can put on shirts), and I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have my villagers repeat those things in my town. Even if you can change it (the first letter you can't, even), it'll still take a while to do so. So I wouldn't say that it's ridiculous and absurd. That's just my perspective anyway.

that's different
not wanting a villager having an obscene or rude catchphrase/shirt is very much more logical than refusing to accept a villager in a trade unless they are 100% original
that's what i'm referring to

I think it's silly - it must be so hard and annoying to keep them in their 'original state'. I think it's nice getting villagers from people and see that some things are different, it makes it more unique and like they have a bit of history to them :)

Actually, there is a way to make them stop showing letters by reporting them to Isabelle.

But what I don't get is if someone is seeking out a 100% original villager, especially with the shirt. You can control their houses and catchphrases to an extent, but there really is no way to control clothes that they wear, because they can get a different shirt from just conversing with another villager (I don't recall giving Hamlet an MVP shirt from someone else, but he's wearing one now). So that means that they can get shirts even if there are no designs at Able's.

They can do what they like with their villagers, I suppose, but there really is no way to make them stay the exact same forever as far as I know.

getting villagers from a cycle town helps ensure their originality. I won my wolfgang in a dreamie giveaway, and the person was a cycler, and campsite reset or something along those lines to get him for me. he was completely original when I got him, and I reset if I see his shirt change.

ill probably eventually have to deal with a change, but id like to preserve it for now, yknow? ;7; theres just something nice about havi ng an original villager. id still gladly take him even if he was unoriginal, though. also, I dont bother with house originality, i just try to keep things matching up haha

an original villager would prob sell for more than an unoriginal villager, so I see why itd be a thing someone would mention in an auction or something.

Oh I didn't realise this happened, that a villager can be not 'original' I was under the impression that when a villager moved in it was sort of 'reset' into its original state although this may be because I've never accepted a villager from another town.

So quick question, does the villager only bring its old town clothes, furniture etc if you specifically ask the villager to move to your town while it's in boxes? Or say if I visit someone elses town but don't actually ask any of the villagers to move into my town (none in boxes at the time)but one of them does later on, do they then reset to original or bring their baggage with them from the town you visited?

Hope that question made sense. :P

if you get someone's voided villager their house/clothing still isn't reset unfortunately

also I don't mind if the villager isn't original, however sometimes people reallllly mess up their houses... I know I was guilty of this when I first started playing and it's such an eyesore to see their homes like that imo
