Do you like how villagers ask you for permission before leaving? I honestly like this feature because it lets me choose who to keep and not have my favorite villager randomly pack his boxes.

Would you like for this feature to be in the next main series game when it is announced, or did you prefer when they could make their own decisions?

I hate to be a dictator, but I love keeping my ten favorite villagers on my island. I know with the RNG that someone will eventually ask to move, but I always say no and I don’t take it personally.

I’m wondering which way you preferred?

I can tolerate a lot of villagers so I don't mind a bit of randomness in my islanders every now and then. Still, there are only a handful of villagers I really like, and they're vastly outnumbered by the ones I don't care about at all. I want to keep those few villagers around, haha.

I think the decrease in randomness is a good change - I really appreciate being able to turn on the game after a week of not playing without worrying about villagers disappearing on me (or also, deciding to build new houses in the worst spots they could find).

I love that they can’t leave without asking. So many of my favorites left when I had to take breaks. It is also nice you don’t have to worry about them putting their house in a weird spot. I do miss the letter you would get in the mail after a villager left.

I like it better like this. I kind of like complete control. I would hate to just wake up one day and find out my villagers had left. In previous games, if I was taking a break, I would have to time travel back and had to remember the last time I had played in order to not have random move outs. Then I would have to figure out who was moving, to convince them to stay. Right now in new horizons I can just ignore them and not worry about them randomly moving out. Keeps my mind at peace since I don’t have to have that worry.

I definitely like how it works best in New Horizons. As others have mentioned, it's nice to be able to take breaks without villagers leaving.

i love being able to tt or pick up the game after a while with no consequences of villagers randomly disappearing. thats part of the reason i never open up new leaf anymore tbh. ill never forget when i was tting and poppy ended up in boxes ;-; i got over it but it was super sad. im glad that cant happen anymore haha i love my current villagers but i also sometimes like to tt

I prefer having more direct control over their decisions. I play the game only occasionally rather than daily, and setting up/executing prevention mechanisms to get around villagers randomly moving out was so time-consuming and tiresome that it just put me off playing the game altogether.

I'm a little torn on this because I do like that we can put homes where we want them now (without a lot of extra work) and they can't just up and leave without talking to us. But they feel so impersonal now and I liked when they would send letters to us when they did move.

The single biggest stress I had when playing NL was randomly losing someone. It’s the reason I eventually stopped playing. I simply couldn’t get in there every day and I was way too stressed. Villagers asking to move is one of the most significant improvements to me. This is the sole reason I don't go back and play NL again, which I believe is the superior game overall.

So much better than the older games. I use to worry all the time about the villagers moving away from me, usually the ones I would like to keep forever.
And the stories of how others lost villagers without warning didn't make it any better.

I have lost villagers without warning (from TT usually) in the past....

I hated it when a villager left the town without asking me. That happened to me once in NL because I wasn't playing it for a few weeks. To answer the question, I like the way New Horizons has, I don't have to worry seeing my villagers leave without permission.

💯! Main reason I quit playing my GameCube version years ago was because my favorite villager (Poncho) moved to my cousin's town. I was devastated. So, as an adult, I got him back in NH and plan to have him always stay haha. His home is the only one that's right next door to me on my little hill, and the rest either live on the hill to the left of us or down near the beach.

it’s been 6 years, but i’ll never forget the day that i loaded up new leaf after not playing for about a week or so, only to be informed that beau, my #1 favourite villager at the time, was in boxes and that there was nothing i could do to change that. my feelings were probably amplified as i was going through a depressive episode at the time, but the devastation that i felt that day is honestly something that’ll stick with me for life. >_<

so yeah, i definitely prefer and am grateful that villagers can’t move out without your permission in new horizons. i loved new leaf, but man is it nice to no longer feel nervous every time that i boot up my game lol.

i just hope that this feature will be implemented in every future animal crossing game as well. 😅🤞🏻

I like how the villagers now ask us if we want to let them move now. I’ve been taking a lot of breaks and I would just hate it if they moved randomly like in NL, even if I don’t end up playing as much or at all, there is always that chance that I’ll come back to play it one day. I hope the random move outs will never happen in any future ACs (then again, chances of me getting the next AC right now is slim unless they take a different approach from NH.)

I... I just see absolutely no pros to returning to how it was and having them move out randomly. I literally cannot understand why someone would want that. It can make a chill game a lot less relaxing, especially for non-TTers (I mean, I always try to play every day, TTing back to when I last played if I haven't played in awhile- but for those who don't, returning from a long hiatus can be quite scary!)

I REALLY like the control we have over villagers in this game and I hope, if/when there's a new game, Nintendo keeps it up. Just like I hope they don't go back to not having crafting or not allowing us to decorate outside, this is one of the big things Nintendo got right this time around!
