Hello all,

ACNH is my first true entry to the IP and I'm wondering...for those that already acquired their set 10 "dream" villagers, what's the plan? Is it to keep them forever and not have them move on, or do you start replacing them with your backup villagers when they ask to leave? I'm at the point in the game where I have my set villagers and are now focusing on making the island better for the villagers. I just have this nagging feeling that the game will eventually force them to ask/tell me that they want to leave.

Seems like no matter how high you build your friendship with the villagers, they will eventually request to move on. I think it has more to do with time spent on the island than friendship points. I know my 1st villager requested to move on within the 30 days mark. My wife had 2 of her initial 3 starter villager move on normally. We don't time travel to force the move nor do we abuse the villagers to build negative friendship points either.

Since all of the villagers that requested to leave (so far) have been ideal as I needed the open plot , I haven't run into a situation where the villager requesting to leave is one I want to keep in my island for a long time. What happens when you tell them to stay put? Do they ask again the week after or does it reset their "need" to leave and it cycles to the next villager?

In summary:
  • For those that have your ideal set of 10 villagers - What are you end goals (Pertaining to villagers)?
  • For those that have one of their dreamies ask to leave - What did you do?
  • For those that told them to stay - What happens after?
Looking to hear from you guys. Thanks!

I've read that a random villager will ask to leave every 15 days or so. If they leave, I think the clock resets to another 15 days, but if you tell them to stay, another villager may ask to leave again before the 15 days. Once you tell them to stay, I don't really think anything changes. They could ask to leave again, but it's probably a result of the RNG rather than a history of them wanting to leave, if that makes sense.

I imagine I will probably do a mix - there are some villagers I will probably hold onto for sentimental value, but there are others that I like and may let go just to keep the game fresh and interesting.

I'm not set yet, but I feel like I can answer your questions anyway. :)

Personally I have more than 10 dreamies, so cycling wouldn't be too bad for me. The mystery islands are too random for me to want to hunt for good villagers though, so I'd rather have a camper and reopen my game until they kick someone out who I approve of instead of hunting.

If I have my comfortable tens, I'll just enjoy that and try to max out my friendships before a good camper shows up. As I said I wouldn't approve of them moving out mostly because the mystery islands are too random and have too many villagers. I'll only fly to make bells later on.

One of my starters is a dreamie and he was the first one to ask to move out. I declined and since then he never asked again. I currently have the highest friendship level with him.

Ah, thanks. The RNG part is what frustrates me the most, I think. I have it in my head that I'm building a bond with these villagers, building areas they will like, gifting them, only for RNG to counter me. I dread walking up to a fav. villager of mine with the white text bubble thinking that it'll be them asking me to leave.

This is good insight. I always wondered what happens after you tell them to stay. I wonder if their behavior changes or if it's business as usual. Seemingly it's back to normal and you can still build friendship.

Thanks!

I think it varies from person to person - I am just going to keep my 10 now that I have all of them and interact with them, build our friendships, etc. Some people do enjoy cycling out their villagers from time to time to keep things fresh, meet new villagers, collect all the posters, etc.

I tell them to stay when they ask to leave - I see some people take it quite personally here when someone they like asks to leave, but honestly it's just the game mechanic, like Etown said, that someone will ask to leave after a certain number of days, and if your town is already full of villagers you like, it's still gonna be one of them no matter how nice you've been to them, lol.

And what happens after is they will just stay when you ask them to, but again, they will ask to leave again randomly, so just keep telling them no if you want them to stay, or tell them to leave if you're ready for them to move/want to search for a new villager.

how do the friendships work and how do you improve them?

You improve them through talking to them daily and sending them gifts. Once you reach the first level, you can start gifting them daily through dialogue. At the level where I am right now my villager asked me for a new catchphrase, which no one else did so far. I don't know the exact details, but this has just been my experience. The last level should give you a framed picture of the villager as usual. :)

I'll eventually stick with my 10 dreamies forever and work their home exteriors into the different sections of my island. Right now I'm trying to cycle through as many villagers as possible to unlock their posters, but I'm keeping the final villagers I already have.

The ones I told to stay just... stayed, and so far none of them has asked to move again. It does seem like the time between two requests is shorter if you don't let them go. As for who wants to move out, it seems to be somewhat random, but it's always been the ones I talk to regularly.

okay! thank you

I'm already set with my islanders! I love them a lot and wouldn't let them leave!

For my end goals, I'm the type who would fill in the gaps in terms of character. I've been writing their backstories in my journal (I'm taking my time on it though!) the game loves to feed my brain with content which makes me fill in the gaps making me more emotionally attached to them (like some islanders love to hang out with specific ones so I decide to plot their relationships and such.)

I'm also working on giving them lawns while taking account for future establishments and features!

I even used my unused college planner to write down "Somnus Events" (just like in Harvest Moon!) this June 6th, there's a special event going to happen!

If they asked to leave, I will refuse. However, if I gave them too much items, I will cycle them out to restore their interiors (I have all amiibos that's supported in New Horizons atm including the Sanrio ones.) so I have 0 hard time of clearing cluttered interiors.

I mean I might have to restart boosting their friendship again but at least it gives me a challenge to get their pictures despite TTing a lot!

I have about 3 or 4 villagers that im never gonna have leave, ever. Unless i get super bored of them, but for now the idea is never. The rest of them im rotating around whenever they ask really. I love punchy and he's been a dreamy of mine since forever but he asked to leave, a friend of mine wanted him and it was fate really! I don't get too hung up on it since I like mixing things up every now and then and having a new villager!

lol, yah, I'm afraid I'm going to take it personally, haha. You're right tho, seeing it as a game mechanic and go from there. It's great that you do have to give confirmation for them to leave. I kind of like that. I just wished that villagers moving is also tied into their friendship points. Example; Friendship level 3 and below will have a chance for said villager to ask to leave. This at least gives a side game/goal to build friendship or lower friendship depending on your purpose.

To clarify what you said in the end, are you saying that if they leave and you have their Amiibo, you can invite them back again via Amiibo campsite and ask them to stay in your island, again? I thought it was one and done.

I wish the move-out RNG could be changed so that villagers who are 'neglected' or just have low interaction with the player are prioritized over those who are given gifts, spoken to daily, etc.

I just get sad when my favorite villagers request to move, while Boone has been neglected for weeks and is perfectly content with it.

There's no restrictions when it comes to Amiibos now, I can spam it although, have to go through DIY requests. Other than that I could do it anytime I want, as much as I want.

If I think I gave them too much clothes, I force evict them with an Amiibo (that is usually desired i.e Ankha), find Ankha threads, give Ankha to someone else, scan back my permanent villager (i.e Mitzi) and do the 3 day scan process again then she moves back in with clean, default interior.

I call my temporary villagers (the ones I use to clear interiors) as "transit villagers". Their role is to help me clean cluttered interiors and to live peacefully and hopefully, permanent homes to a new owner!

I hope that clears it up...ish?

Yah, I agree, I know there are friendship levels, I say, anything below a certain friendship threshold gets a higher priority.

That does! I love it, transit villagers, lol. I need to find me a set of these so I can even treat them as my service for hire villagers. Invite for a small vacation to clean up the village!

Since you've done this to your permanent villager (Mitzi), do they remember you? I understand you have to rebuild your friendship points but do they know you as they a villager would if they move to a friends island and you visit said island and interact with them sort of thing?

I'm not sure. I don't think I really have dreamies in the traditional since. Except for Pietro... I specifically knew I wanted him and I can't imagine ever letting him leave. I can't imagine not having Sprinkle either.

But I'm super satisfied with the villagers on my main island. All except for perhaps Gwen, who was a random move in, but I still like her. My feelings may change if I get bored and I may allow some of my villagers to leave if they ask, but I'm not in a hurry to make them leave.

I have a second island specifically for the purpose of letting basically anyone move in. That way I'll be able to see a variety of villagers and see who works best for my village. If anyone asks to leave, I'll probably let them so I can see more villagers. Unless I start to feel more strongly about the villagers I have. It's going to be a more relaxed island for sure.

Ah, that's one way to be more flexible, to have a 2nd island. I can see how people are frustrated with Nintendo's decision of 1 island per console. With multiple island, you can have multiple style of game play too.

Glad I was able to help clear things! I established a complex system in my island so I understand if it's confusing to some.

It's nice having transit villagers too! I love seeing people's reactions* when they get to have their dreamies with only paying less than what the player markets demand! I also set up a bonus for journal readers that if they happen to see "transit villagers" posted in my journal's bulletin board, they can adopt them for free! No entry fees or tips needed! I gave one to a TBT user recently. Besides, they help me not waste or void villagers in case I feel like tidying up my permies' interiors! It's a win/win case for sure!

They don't remember (new islanders summoned via Amiibo) but my boyfriend got my old Mitzi (voided Mitzi, the very first Mitzi) which I will be taking back after I'm done with an event I'm working on!

Ones who were previously bonded WILL remember where they were and you. I gave Raymond to a close friend of mine to clear his interior and I took him back in, he retained his friendship level with me and called my island "home" which was emotional to me.

My old Mitzi misses me back in my bf's island and is wearing the clothes I gave her!

Super, super informational. I didn't even think about giving them away to friends, you're right about that! Fortunately I have Amiibos of my set villagers (Except for Sherb) so I'll be thinking about your method when it comes to it. Thanks!
