I do not time travel very often. I have nothing against time traveling. I just screwed up really badly the first time I tried time traveling and have been a big chicken about doing it ever since. Due to some things going on in real life I missed both the Harvest Festival & Toy Day in both of my towns. Having done them both in my main I decided I wanted to try to do them both in my 2nd town of Sheepish. To do both holidays requires TTing. Sigh.

This morning I decided I'd be brave and at least try to get Harvest Festival done. I pulled up my "TTing for Idiots" guide that I wrote from specific instructions I asked for in a different thread last year. Last year I also double checked my guide with a good friend who TTs frequently so I made sure I had everything correct.

Step 1 - Make sure to have Beautiful Town ordinance on. ✔️

Step 2 - Talk to ALL 10 villagers until someone mentions wanting to move or hearing a rumor about wanting to move. - Unchecked

Step 2 is where I'm having a problem. I have talked to all 10 villagers with both my mayor & my alt. I am getting pings - get me fruit, get me furniture, Mayor Bo can I call you B-Puff (NO, you may not call me B-Puff), change my greeting, make a delivery. I even got "dig up that time capsule". I've saved & continued, saved & quit, switched between mayor & alt 3 separate times, run around my town for 15 minutes with each character, run circles around each villager with both characters, went fishing, went in & out of buildings and went up & down to Main Street. I even went and swam in the same spot in the ocean for 5 minutes (stupid jellyfish). I've been at this for hours and NONE of my villagers has mentioned anything about anyone moving.

What the heck more do I need to do?! Needless to say this has totally ruined my "I'll be brave" attitude of this morning. At this point I'm out of time to play for right now and even if I had more time I'm now too nervous to try TTing.

What other things can I try to do to get my villagers to talk about moving? I don't know if I'll feel brave enough to try again tomorrow (or ever) but I want to know what to do if I ever encounter this situation again. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Did someone ask to move out yesterday at least? or maybe even 2 days ago? TTing backwards x amount of days will still count as one day. So as long as you very recently stopped someone from moving out, you should be fine to TT backwards. Villagers move out 10 days after they ping to move, so you do have some leeway. Of course, it's always better to get them to ping you on the day to be absolutely sure. You're not really doing anything wrong, your villagers may just be really stubborn :P

Other than waiting for your villagers to ping, you can also talk to all your villagers constantly and see if one of them mentions another villager moving.

I haven't been able to play since the 23rd. I honestly don't remember if someone moved out then. I'm glad to know I wasn't do anything wrong in trying to get them to talk about moving. My villagers being really stubborn makes TOTAL sense. I'll start over tomorrow (maybe) and will just talk to them until I annoy them. Hopefully someone will talk about moving. Thank you for your help!

There isn't always a villager planning to move out each day. Sometimes, they go a few days or so between planned moves where nobody is thinking about leaving. I've heard that if your villagers talk about rumors (there are various texts that mention rumors) but do not mention that someone is leaving, then no one is planning to move out that day. So you do just need to try again the next day if that happens.

Oh my gosh - thank you so much for replying! I thought I had read somewhere that villagers don't ping every day to move out but I could not for the life of me remember where so then I started thinking that I was wrong and hadn't seen that information. Plus this makes so much sense with what happened today. One of my villagers actually did tell me there was a rumor about them buying a car with another villager. Now that I know if someone mentions a rumor but no one talks about anyone moving then I have to wait until the next day. This will save me so much time and frustration if I try to TT again. Thank you again! ^^

Usually just waiting a few days can lead to someone pinging you to move out. I wish my villagers would avoid moving lol

I was trying to do Harvest Festival while I was feeling brave this morning. With none of my villagers saying anything about moving I started worrying I was doing something wrong which made me feel even less confident about TTing. At least now I know that they don't ping to move every day so I know I wasn't the problem this time.

I definitely don't want my villagers moving. That's why I was so stressed when no one talked about it. I was worried I'd lose someone if I tried to TT.

Someone may have decided today to move out. I would just go back in time, as it counts as one day anyway (no matter how far back you travel) complete the day. Save and travel to the next day, someone should ping you.

Also, the day that you tell someone not to move is always the day to travel forward in time. As far as I'm aware, no matter how long you go forward, nobody will have moved as long as you tell them no on the last gameplay.

If your on the event day now then once you complete it, go to the next day, have a villager ping to move, say no, then you should be good to travel forward as much as you need.

I kind of experienced this just now because I was time traveling for trades. I played about 5 game days before someone pinged me to move out. When they did, they were asking to move 10 days later from that day, so it means I didn’t actually miss anyone’s pings before that, they just didn’t want move out during those five days. For some reason I thought that a villager would ask to move out earlier with the update, but I guess not!

I had run out of time to play for the day so I just waited until the next day. Someone pinged me right away so I was able to get the Harvest Festival done at least. Although when I was TTing forward I ran into the same problem. I went forward 2 days. No one pinged about moving. Sigh. At that point I was running low on time so I took a leap of faith and jumped back to the correct date. Luckily I didn't lose anyone. These villagers are stubborn & are trying to give me a heart attack! Now I just have Toy Day. Oh boy.

5 game days?! Good grief. I thought it was 3 days at most. I hope when I go to try Toy Day (which may be today) someone pings me right away. I don't know if I could handle TTing 5 days in a row. I'm just such a chicken. lol! 🐔

So Toy Day ended up not happening. I TT'd to December 24th but all my villagers had changed what they wanted so the list I had of what gifts to give them ended up being useless. I googled what might have happened and it seems that if you TT backward near Toy Day your villagers can change their minds. I had NO clue or I would have done Toy Day before the Harvest Festival. I'm a bit bummed about not being able to do Toy Day but at least I'm done TTing.

Also, Time traveling backwards, counts as one day, no matter how far you go.

I'm sorry you didn't get to complete Toy Day, but at least you got to do the Harvest Festival. I didn't know they changed their minds either because I don't usually time travel.
