They are. :(

One offered to sell me a painting 2 days ago for 4.000 bells. I declined and she lowered to 1.000 bells, which I accepted. It turned out to be a fake painting. Earlier tonight when I returned from beetle hunting a villager *pinged*, noticed my Hercules beetle (12.000 bells) and offered to trade it for a plain shirt...

What's your story?

LOL I agree! But when they sell there stuff they make sure to jack up the prices!!!!

Totally true. In my previous town a villager put a regular shell from the beach in Re-tail, for 300 bells. Should have taken a picture of that. :D

If a villager asks you to buy a painting for around 4,000 always turn it down. It's usually fake. If they ask you to buy one around 7,000 that one is the one you want to buy. The one's I've bought have all been real and ones I don't have in my museum.

And yes, with trading items they're super cheap. Unless they're my lazy villagers. They normally ask to buy things for more than they're worth. And my smugs usually buy higher prices from retail a lot more than other villagers would.

Yeah, I've had one ask me for one of my beetles in exchange for some cheap chair. Um. No. Beetle hunting on the island is hard work, and I can buy that chair for like 800 bells.

This isn't necessarily true about the paintings. Depending on who you buy it from, the price varies and it can be either fake or real. It will be real more often if you have good feng shui in your house.

But I've noticed with Crankies, they sell paintings at around 3k or a little higher.
Uchi sell paintings around 4k.
Smug sell paintings around 7k.

And at those prices, I have gotten real paintings.

Sometimes smugs feel guilty about selling me a painting for 7k and would just give it to me for free, so I've always opted to buy in the hopes of getting it for free but I've been unfortunate the past couple of times. lol. Maybe I should just empty my pocket? lol. But they're so cute I can't say no. D:

My villagers are always asking to trade my sharks and rare beetles for shirts.
I refuse to say no to them though which has made me lose a lot of bells. >:c

Husslers D:< They keep trying to trade and sell me stuff and all MY BEST STUFF they give me a shirt in exchange...... A shirt

New addition!

Yesterday, Beau pinged in Re-Tail and asked if he should buy a Kiddie Wardrobe. I put it there after I received it as a gift from another villager whom got it by mail a week earlier. When I logged my 2nd villager Beau asked to see the house. Today I received that same Kiddie Wardrobe as a gift for showing him my house.

*deep sigh*

Yeah, I hate it when Mira cons me into buying a fake painting, then skips away singing. :D I usually just let my villagers rip me off anyway (unless I know I'm buying something from their house decorations), seems to make them happy.

Ankha just gave me her 800k throne once though, that was pretty generous. Messed up the theme of her house, so I think I might give it back. I don't really have a use for it anyway.

LOL I bought something overpriced from Phoebe (I always say yes) and then talked to her while she was singing and her voice sfx was a weird high guilty one instead of the usual tone. She knew exactly what she was doing!

More on topic: When I got my first coelacanth, three villagers ran after me in a row asking to buy it for like 8000 bells. NOPE

...that feel when you're taking a Gracie item back to your house and someone runs up and says "How about we play Nook-for-a-day?" NOPE

I had the same experience, although I got it from another villager after she replaced the throne with a random chair. Too bad she won't accept her second pyramid back.

I generally say no to my villagers when they ask to make a ridiculous trades, but with the smugs though, sometimes they'll offer to write me a poem (+ a shirt or something like that) in exchange for an item and when I say no, they walk around looking all sad and staring at me with that frown. It makes me feel so guiltyyy. :c

Colton sold me one for over 7000 bells and turned out fake. -_-

Yeah, when I visited her house she had replaced the throne with a plastic green chair. xD Looked so out of place. She did also give me a pyramid once, which I managed to give back.

I had Shep try to get me to trade my horned elephant in exchange for his shirt not long ago -- I declined, and he started whining about how his poetry is awful (he initially offered to read me a poem of his) and how he'll just sit around moping. And so he did. I felt bad, but it's like, really? I'm not trading you my horned elephant!
