The Top
Squirrels are amazing. Super cute designs with a good variety in them. Their tails are really adorable and they pull of many personalities very well.
Deer cover a lot of different species in their line up which is very appreciated, their worst members are still better than most other villagers. However, a friend horded Deer so I don't have much impulse to own one myself so not much personal connection to them!
Horses fly under the radar some, but they got some really great designs for every personality except Jock, sorry Buck. Reneigh is easily the best Sisterly for me... by miles.
Frogs are simple overall but pretty cute. I like that their species has a unique trait with them enjoying the rain and not using umbrellas. It's pretty awesome to have species specific traits! The females line up is weaker than the males though with only Lily and Diva being anywhere on my radar.
Eagles have a really awesome model and have some really solid hitters. They really dropped the ball for some of their home interiors though, and the female cast is sadly lacking reps here. I feel this is a species with aa lot of untapped potential.
Ostriches have a fun line up similar to the Deer where they cover many species with their roster.
Ducks are pretty darn cute and have a great variety in similar light to the Squirrels... just with a bit more misses.

Wolves are a fan favorite for obvious reasons, but I got to dock them for their horrible personality spread (Snooty and Cranky city) and massive heads.
Pigs actually have a really good model and their cast has some really good variety, sad they seem ignored and forgotten. Gala is a Queen.
Bears were initially one I didn't care for, but Groucho has made me really appreciate these beefy giants. They just fit into the world so well.
Lions get a REALLY bad rap with the community, and I truly don't get it. Their design is solid and they got some incredible members. I feel the Lion hatred is more of a herd mentality than actual hate. Rex would be my Lazy dreamy if his home interior looked more like a home.
Cubs are cute and have a wide variety of colors and designs in their line up. The species has some serious misses though to.
Alligators are a really fun and unique species on the line up. I wish they had more that spoke to me design wise, but they're cool.
Birds weren't one I looked much at, but I've come to really appreciate their colorful and simple cast.

Dogs are a tad simple, in terms of having one live with you in real life is much easier than having a Eagle, Deer, or Wolf. You get me? They're normal everyday pets that I could easily have in my life. Meanwhile a Bear isn't something I'll have with me. Still a really good species though with some really solid designs. I just struggle with finding the idea of having a buddy dog with me in the game when that's already possible in real life.
Monkeys have a fun model shape and are pretty cool, they got more misses than hits though. I do like their tails quite a bit.
Koalas are a species I kind of forget about, they aren't bad though by any means and I appreciate them getting represented!
Bulls are such a cool design and neat concept, sadly only Vic is remotely good looking. There is potential here.
Cats are way over hyped and over rated in my book. Similar to Dogs, I find the premise of them boring. But the bigger insult is how many lack noses! I hate it! They look more like emoji faces that grew bodies rather than cats! There is cuteness here but that's about it.
Gorillas have more hate than love for sure in community and I understand it. But I also look at them and see the appeal of their unusual presence. Hans is also kind of intriguing to think of some gentleman yeti moving to the island to escape the yeti hunters.
Tigers could of been designed better. The issue comes from their snouts for the most part cause they simple screwed up the noses. Tybalt, Bangle, and Rolf have better nose placements while Tigers like Bianca and Leonardo have their noses on the start of their snout for some dumb reason and it holds them back. The general shape of their snout is also off. I wish I could love them, but the model team did them dirty!

Rhinos are pretty interesting and solid, but they are a bit odd looking straight forward facing and Merengue is the only one I really like.
Chicken aren't exactly exciting to me, but I got to give them credit for having some solid designs. It's interesting to me that a Species that doesn't invoke much hype to me as a premise just has such far superior designs than way more creative species that it outshines them.
Elephants. I hate the one side mouths. Cyd and Tia are the only good ones. Axel is scary... though better than one side mouths.
Kangaroos were a great addition that was executed kind of poorly with how the babies are done. Walt is cool though!
Hippos are a bit funky looking, but I think that has some appeal to it as well.
Sheep look so uncomfortable and awkward in shirts. I wish I got to experience the more fluffy ones of games past with scarves cause these ones just look confined and constricted.
Penguins don't really suit the tropical island as much as others, the species kind of blends all together to me, and their models stretch clothes to look kind of ridiculous like Roald's buttons on his default outfit getting huge at the summit of his belly.
The Bottom
Octopus are unique but very untapped. There's nothing exciting with their current cast for me. They are super common in hunts or at least feel so since there is so few of them to see. There just really isn't any excitement for me with this species as they are now. I don't like Zucker at all, I find Marina one note, and Octavian's face is way to compressed. I need more of them.
Oh Rabbits... I want to love them but there is much wrong with their designs. Nose less. Random miss matched colored legs. Side ways mouths. Ugly stuck on hairdos. Unibrows. Overly large eyes. Gaping mouths. Stripper outfit. Chrissy and Francine looking more like they are wearing costumes than actually being rabbits. There is a lot wrong with the design choices on the rabbit model than the model itself.
Mice look like their models were more rushed than other species. They could be a lot cuter than they are. There's a few solid ones like Rod or Bree... but the species overall got the short end of the model stick.
Goats... their head shape is like a produce that got dropped a few times. I don't like it or how many of them have their mouths so far down to. I think Gruff's goatee helps distract from that for me. Pashmina and Sherb are generally pretty to if I ignore their head.
Cows are just uninteresting and just inferior to Bulls since at least they get awesome horns. Patty and Tipper are also horrible names on the only 2 I kind of like.
Anteaters lack mouths and most of them look horrible. It's a unique and fun species with a rather awkward model.
Hamsters are clay potatoes that got stepped on a few times. Most of their designs are insulting. There's Karen, Augustus, Dennis Nedry, Mug Shot Serial Killer, A literal Burglar, and the star of some Saturday night Sci-Fi horror movie monster. Hamlet is just a regular potato. Oh, I forgot Flurry... like how the designers forgot her nose. (she'd be really adorable with one)
