Just to get this out of the way, I do not mean romantic relationships. I mean the friendships that certain villagers seem to have with another villager.

I was thinking about how villagers will sometimes gossip about another villager, and I noticed that their opinions about that villager do not seem to change. For example, Chrissy and Moose are good friends in my town. Both of them will talk about how the other is their friend. It also seems that whenever I get a gift request by one of them, it is almost always for the other.

Have you noticed anywhere else that this mechanic affects their behavior? For example, do villagers talk to each other more if they have a good relationship? I'm curious about how this works because I have not seen much discussion about this topic.

I know you said not romantic, but in my old town Francine and Lobo were kind of a thing. They constantly chatted, he called her beautiful a lot, and he always asked me to deliver gifts to her. It was actually really sweet and I'm kinda sad that I had to reset that town.

On the friendly side, Drift just noted that Zucker and Sheldon seem to be buddies, so I'm interested to see how that plays out.

I mean, I said not romantic, but that was mostly just to clarify this is not a shipping post. Interesting how these friendships genuinely seem to affect their behavior.

Ah, my mistake. Makes sense.
I have a few stories I can tell from my oldest town, too. Pekoe and Zucker actually had more of a love-hate relationship than anything else. They argued a lot, Pekoe constantly got mad at him, but then on the flip side they seemed to hang out a lot, delivered gifts to one another, and villagers often gossiped about them. Octavian was a father-like figure to Marina and Pekoe. Cece and Vich? constantly worried about each other, which was really sweet to me, considering that they're sisters. It's a shame that my town had a very unfortunate name because all of my villagers functioned like an actual society.

I think that being on friendly terms increases gift requests for sure. That's what I noticed with my villagers. In terms of dialogue though, I actually tend to see more with villagers who are neutral towards or dislike each other. Could be a fluke or it could be that the special dialogue isn't tied to friendliness.

Oooh. Whats your town name?

Something I noticed with all my villagers was that, most of the time, they all hated Elvis. Every single time he went near a group of my villagers, i'd come back and they'd all be sad and cranky except him.

In my old town, Kidd and Zucker were best friends and would deliver gifts to each other and Kidd called Zucker scatterbrained once as 'gossip'. Purrl and Olivia did the same thing, except Olivia would gossip about her all the time.

I think personality and species often have something to do with it- Punchy doesn?t get along at all with Moose or Bree, probably because he?s a cat and they?re mice ^^; I?ve also noticed that jock+peppy and smug+lazy get along really well most of the time- Moose and Carmen are best friends in my town, as well as Punchy and O?Hare, so it seems to be true ^u^ Someone actually made a whole chart detailing villager compatibility in New Leaf, if you?re interested: http://artsy-dreamer.tumblr.com/post/162709511127/new-leaf-villager-compatibility
