So I haven't been around that long and I'm probably just stating the obvious, but I've noticed something.

When I first came here I was expecting the top tier villagers in the trading plaza to be in the realm of "No way you're gonna get one of these!" And I was like "Eh. I don't really want them." So once my 10th villager moved out I went looking on the plaza for a replacement. I figured something no one was really attached to, like Nana the normal monkey, would be a good one to seek out.

No notifications and only one or two threads selling her. Yet I see threads selling top tier villagers like Whitney almost every day. I mean sure there's a lot going on down there in the trading plaza, but it seems like the more popular villagers, by having that very status, would be more likely sold than any other.

I can understand why this happens. The most sought after villagers would be the ones that most grab the attentions of cycling towners and the ones who would gain them the most profit. Whereas the ones who end up in lower tiers would just be relegated to giveaways. I let Bubbles the Peppy Hippo leave without putting her up for sale because I'm absolutely sure that no one has any attachment to her. Does anyone even like hippos?

tldr version: The more popular a villager is, the easier it is to obtain them because everyone's going to be selling them on the plaza.

Yes, the more popular the villager is, the easier it is to obtain.
Unless you have 0 TBT or IGB because in that case you will not see Marshal in your town.

Nana was a dreamie before but I had way too many normals at the time, I got lucky because someone just happened to be giving her away when I checked the forum.

If you are searching for someone that is extremely unpopular in the Tier 5's, like Lyman for example, you will most likely not see anyone even having them in their cycle town because they would probably be auto-voided before you can even post.

True. There have been a lot of threads discussing the difficulty of attaining lower-tier villagers lately, though there have been words about trying to make at least small changes to the culture. In my cycling town (which I'd resurrect if I could find the darn thread but I lose wifi in seven days anyway) I was practising a no-autovoid, all villagers free and given the same amount of time to find a home business model. And what I found in that limited time (I kept track of tiers) was that lower tiers, even with this consideration, usually still had to be voided.

So it's simultaneously a practise of looking for the profitable villagers + because fewer people want lower tiers (tiers, of course, literally only being a measurement of what villagers are pursued the hardest, not dictates of value), it's harder to find a home for them who's online and has room to take them. Both sides come into play in the matter.

It's kind of interesting to watch the market moving, though.

If a villager is popular and sells for a lot, people won't hesitate to try and sell them in order to make profit. So that's why there would be many Marshal threads or whoever. But the lower tier villagers aren't that common because you most likely can't make profit off of them.

It's unfortunate that it's harder to find the lower tier villagers. But if you ever need Marshal or another top tier villager, you're bound to find them in minutes. xP

Yeah I have noticed this too. I'm not ever really interested in villager trading myself because I don't want to villager plot reset all the time. It takes up too much time and I don't have another character slot to do the reset trick anymore anyways. The most popular characters are really easy to find if you can afford the price for them. I like most of the lower tier villagers but it's hard to find them in the forums.

it's because top tier villagers are more valuable/profitable when people sell them, unlike lower tier villagers so people tend to just void them. some give them away but most don't bother.
however there's the "official looking for" thread where people ask for the villagers they want, usually they ask for lower tier villagers because of course they couldn't find them offered in the forum, and people actually check that thread. whenever I ask for a lower tier villager there I get at least one pm with an offer of the villager I asked for. try it

Yeah it's kind of a lose-lose. If you want a high tier villager you have to give up all your money and if you want a low tier villager you have to wait a long time for them to show up. I eventually stopped buying villagers and just started villager resetting instead. It's fast and cheap plus you don't have to hear other people's ill-advised town tunes (all one note? really?).

You often don't find lower tiers, mainly because a lot of people think that it's not worth the time to let them get adopted out, and would rather void them. Most cycle towns also auto-void lower tier characters.
As for higher tier characters, they are always in high demand, and no one voids them. The thing is, if you want one of them, you better be prepared to spend all your tbt in a bidding war >.<

Or just immediately throw 250-300tbt at whoever is selling them. That's usually the buyout price and since popular villagers like Chrissy and Whitney are so often sold, you can easily get them just by snapping at any new thread that pops up and throwing it all out there.

this!

I wish there was a middle ground regarding it, but oh well. Thankfully there are more and more cycling threads where people are not autovoiding tier 5s, and giving everyone a chance

Yea I noticed the same thing before when I was looking for Willow.. she's in the middle ground, in tier 3. But took me a while for me to find her >.<.. We see a lot more threads for tier ones and twos more often than lower ones. It makes sense cuz they are more popular..

I think it's about timing too. A lot of people have giveaway threads for tier 5s before voiding them but they don't wait that long before voiding so yeah.. It helps to check out all cycling town threads and let them know if you want to take low tier (usually 4 & 5) off the auto-void list.. c:

Lately, I have been seeing a few more threads for lower tier villagers like Rodeo, but The Villager Trading Plaza is just full with Faunas, Lollys, Rosies, and Julians, and while it can help a lot of people, many others are left there trying to lurk in cycling towns for dreamies that often get auto-voided. When I have a low-tier villager leaving my town I always give away.

I don't have a cycle town, per se, but I do have a second town that I time travel in a lot, so villagers move out pretty frequently. When I started seeing the threads about people not being able to find the lower tier dreamies, I started checking the looking for thread in the villager trading forum. I've been able to easily adopt out 3 villagers that way. I would start posting in that thread. There are people that check it. :)

I have a non-profit cycling town that I give away villagers from and I always check the Looking For thread when one of my villagers pings to move.I post all villagers no matter which tier they're in.

The concept of being able to pick and choose the villagers that come to your town is strange to me. I always thought it was supposed to be random. None the less, I have picked up a villager from the villager trading forum, but my only requirement was that it was an Uchi since I still need PWP's from that group. You can bet the next time I get a top tier moving out I'll be selling them out for some bells though... Kid Cat should be leaving soon >:) I have no idea why he's popular.
Too bad I was too late on selling Diana, Stitches, and Rosie.

I usually don't go for high tier villagers ( not on purpose, I just happened to like the lower ones). I had a hard time finding and getting a lot of them. I recently started a town and decided to get all deer villagers.I thought it would be hard, but in one week, I had 8 of them. I didn't realize that the deer were all tier 3 and up. As long as you have tbt, it's easy to get top tiers. They're all over the villager trade board. I wish the lower ones were as easy. At least they are usually given away.
