Villager Personalities Enhanced...?

I feel crankies are the least cranky they've ever been in NH. I don't know about the other personalities.
I thought this too. I just got my first cranky, chief, and he seems pretty nice and not at all what i would of expected from a personality called that

Crankies have been watered down massively. I remember that they were actually mean in older games but now they are nice to you straight away.

I feel like the personalities are more one-note, inoffensive, and bland. Peppies seem more amped up because the writing focuses on their one personality trait a lot more. Crankies are the least cranky villagers to date. Most of the time they seem pretty polite tbh, same with Snooties. Is there even an instance where Snooties and Crankies will be actually mean in this game?

I’m guessing they did this, so that kids and the growing fanbase wouldn’t get upset at rude villagers. It makes sense, since people will actually kick out villagers if they made their dreamie cry during a scripted conversation… I don’t think the fans could handle actual rudeness

I would actually love to have some villagers that are a little rude. It'd make for some good drama here on the island, it would suck for the villagers I suppose but it would be more interesting than this happy circle of neighbours who always get along.

Even more amazing would be if the player and villager could be rude to each other, but in that friendly banter kind of way... Imagine being able to call a cranky out on their fashion choices only to be met with "Well at least I changed my clothes this week" and a laugh. It doesn't all have to be rude and grumpy, I would just like them to be blunt...

I agree. Nintendo appears to be watering down a lot of their content. Everything is getting to be so inoffensive and bland.

Aside from Animal Crossing, even Pokemon games are becoming pudding-person easy.

The reason I like NH's villagers probably stems from the charm in what they do around the island. I like focusing on one or two villagers anyway, so I probably avoid most of the annoyance on my own.

Snooties are even less snooty than in nl. I actually like them in both games but they give varied vibes in each.

All i'm going to say is Lily is a cute normal but my god was she boring. Normals aren't normal they're blamd.

I like that the hobbies are much more fleshed out, like you’ll see villagers actually engaging in their hobbies now.
However, the hobbies seem like glorified personalities now if you get what I’m saying? Like most jocks are into fitness, most peppies are into fashion, and the lazies are playful.

I personally find them extremely one-dimensional. They're so laser focused on their one thing and it's just to their detriment. Jocks (muscles), normals (cooking and books), and lazies (bugs and food) are the worst offenders IMO.

It's gotten to the point where I don't want to talk to anyone, so I just don't bother.

The novelty of seeing a villager doing exercises/siging/reading a book wore off months ago. There's no depth to them.

I agree with this too, it doesn't help that the AI for some of these activities is so borked as well (e.g. nature hobby villagers literally watering the same patch of 3 flowers for the better part of an hour).

I will say though, that even though the dialogue is lacking, I LOVE how they actually do things like read, eat food, workout, sing, etc. I hope they’ll add more of these little actions. I even wanted villagers to randomly swim near the beaches too lol

To be honest, I feel like I have heard a lot the the same dialogue from villagers (after less time than NL), while in NL, after 450 hours, I would still get something here and there that I have not heard.

I feel like the way they approached personalities in this game is a little different, and it can seem better or worse depending on how you look at it. When I played WW, it wasn't immediately obvious what the different villagers' personality types were, but they were more realistic in that their topics of interest varied beyond just one or two defining features. For instance, you'd see a cranky and a jock discuss heavy metal together, something you might not expect of a stereotypical jock type right away. Lazies had more to discuss besides food and naps.

Meanwhile, in NH and I think NL to an extent, all the types have a handful of core obsessions - jocks are always talking about their muscles, peppies always want to be pop stars, crankies always talk about how old they are, for lazies it's always food/bugs, etc. You can define each type with one or two words; you couldn't do that with personalities in WW so much. While this new direction makes it extremely clear what type they are without question, it also makes the villagers less interesting and more doll-like. One-dimensional, even. You have to look harder and use your imagination to come up with more particular characteristics that make your villagers individually charming.

huh, i never noticed; tho i have been lacking in catching up with my villagers this week so

i haven’t noticed this. while normals are still kind as they’ve been in previous games and peppies are still bouncing off the walls and fantasizing about being famous, the lazies, crankies and snooties are a lot different.

previously, lazies talked about food and relaxing a lot and while they still do, their dialogue focus seems to now be on bugs which is uh,,, confusing lmao. snooties aren’t very snooty anymore, either, and now act more like a more polished version of the normal villagers. and still, crankies aren’t cranky at all anymore and if anything, act more like loving grandpas lmaoo
