Villager House Placements

Ok, so I've taken every precaution to make sure any dreamy villagers that move in don't plunk their house right next to any bridges and/or block the view of any PWP's or buildings. I had placed patterns in just the spots where I don't want any disruptions to my flowers, trees, PWP's and buildings. To my knowledge Villagers will avoid setting their house on patterns that are at least 9 spaces full right?

That's what I've read, but they still move onto them even when I've left plenty of legitimate space for them.

Villagers should avoid 3x3 areas, but sometimes they don't. I would make multiple "plots" for them to choose from and make a random character after 6:00 AM to see where they decided to settle. If the villagers consistently plot in an area you don't want them too, I'd TT to ~5:30 AM and block off that area again then start the process over again. While plot resetting isn't as tedious as it once was, it still requires some effort if you're a perfectionist.
