Villager from friends town moved in without invite

Something interesting happened today, which I haven't been able to find any place on the internet. One of my friends villagers moved into my town, without me inviting them. All I know is, that they referenced my friend's town and how many "weirdos" were there! Has this happened to anyone else?

Have you StreetPassed them?
That's another instance that allows other peoples' villagers to move into your town.

As long as someone visits your town or you visit and a villager moved recently, if they're still in the void, they have the potential to move into your town.

I've had a few move-ins from StreetPass, one of which was one of my dreamies; I was pretty happy!

Yes it does happen to me all the time! as I don't try to avoid getting voided villagers. It's so cute to hear them talking about their previous towns / mayors. ^^

Yes all the time. Sometimes at the most inconvenient times haha u_u

Yep, my husband and I have swapped villagers twice now without inviting them. Anytime a villager moves out, if no one invites them to their town, they go to the 'void.' The next time you interact with that person by visiting their town, having them visit you, or streetpassing them, if you have less than 10 villagers you will get someone from their void. The void can be cleared by visiting a town with 10 villagers.

I got my sis' villager, uninvited only a few days after I had started my first time game. She had lived a long time with my sis but moved out at one point. She even remembered my sister's b-day when my sis was visiting my town on her b-day. So cute! (And she has a t-shirt my sis designed). She was using the catchphrase my sis taught her and it spread across my town.

I've gotten two of my favorite villagers from random move-ins, Sheldon and Gwen! I deleted the town that Gwen lived in, but I'm not planning on letting Sheldon leave, at least not for a very long time.
