How do you like the villager acquisition methods in this game so far? This is especially a question for those who also played New Leaf (or older games?), but people new to the series are also welcome to share their input.

No more are the days of New Leaf where we have to start our files with anxiety in our hearts wondering who moved into our town and where did they put a plot and what part of the town did they just ruin. (Or if you were very patient and particular, you'd create a 2nd character to scope out the situation and save on them if you liked it, or reset if you didn't).

While the mystery islands don't give us a 100% guarantee, we have a lot more control and freedom over who we invite to our towns, so I certainly think it's a huge positive step in the right direction

I like the acquisition methods. I like being able to pick where I want the plots to go (very reminiscent of the Gamecube version where the plots were predetermined and iirc you couldn't even put trees and the like where houses would go). I like island hopping.

What I don't like is how long it takes for a villager to want to move out.

I agree with you, I feel like it's a huge step up from the mechanics in NL with the introduction of being able to find villagers via island hopping. Although it's still up to RNG and NMTs are expensive, at least I'll be able to choose which villager I want to settle for if I didn't manage to find a dreamie and my tickets are running out. Having a slight freedom in who I want to move in apart from using the campsite and amiibo cards is something I'm really happy that Nintendo incorporated.

I used to open New Leaf with so much panic sometimes because I always thought one of my faves were going to be gone :c
It's so nice to be able to pick where you want your villagers to live! I just don't like doing three requests when scanning in villagers.

Compared to NL, we’ve come a LONG way now in NH. The thing I love most is how you can still recruit a camper even if you have a full island. It may be a little tedious to get them to pick exactly who you wanted to boot out but imagine in NL, this wasn’t even an option at all. I never go inside tents when I have a full town in NL because if it was a dreamie, I’ll just be in for a heartbreak. Now I’m always excited to see who’s camping.

this is tangentially related, but i looove villager hunting streams on twitch. they're so much fun to watch lol. i'd much rather spend 300 tickets to island hop than buy a villager, there's still something kinda weird about it but not gonna lie - if i was desperate, i still might buy/trade for a dreamie!

I think it's fantastic to have more control over who moves in/out/where. Though it can be frustrating waiting for villagers to decide to move out, I'd rather it be this way, ultimately.

With the islands, the acquisition is much improved from past games. It's really not even close.

The new system is very different for sure, and I really like it! I wish we had more villagers come into the campsite, though.
I agree on the fact that villager hunting streams are very fun to watch!!
Amiibo cards feel too easy when I use them, though. But I definitely don't miss the extremely bothersome resetting when a new villager was coming in! Looking back, the hours I spent doing this... high school me was a weird kid.

i like it! i’m relieved that i no longer have to spend hours resetting whenever i get a new villager to ensure their plot doesn’t ruin anything lmao

I love it!! Island hopping is so thrilling--you never know if you'll meet a dreamie, or find a villager who sweeps you off your feet! So much easier than biting your nails and hoping your new rando villager doesn't screw up your New Leaf flowerbeds.
