Does anyone have any idea what the new requirements are for placing bridges? I know the update made the restrictions more lax, but I don't know details. Have any of you successfully built a bridge within one space of a rock? (This is a diagonal bridge, by the way.)

I feel quite stupid, because I made sure there were no buildings or houses anywhere near the bridge but forgot to worry about the rock, and I can't exactly change dirt paths. If it turns out that the bridge won't fit and I haven't loaded up my game today, could I go back to yesterday and rescind the order to demolish the bridge?

I have a spot where I tried to put a vertical bridge, there was a rock at the lower side with only one space in-between. It worked fine, but I'm not sure if it'll be the same for diagonal bridges.

I'm not sure about diagonal bridges but I also once put a bridge vertically near a rock and only one space between them. For villager houses, the minimum is 3 spaces in front of the door. I'm not sure about the side and the back but I know it's a bit more lenient so 2 spaces would be fine.

Ohmigosh, you've just made me so happy! I always wanted to place the third bridge in my one town kinda in the middle of the bottom space of my map, but there's a permanent rock a couple spaces away so Isabelle would never let me put it there. Sounds like I'll finally be able to. Woo!

You could always start with a new character and see if the bridge worked, so long as you don't save with them it shouldn't save that you've checked that day. However I'm not sure if you can stop the bridge from being demolished... I think you'd just have to try it and see unfortunately. Can you rebuild the old bridge you've got demolishing plans for if your diagonal bridge doesn't work out?

I haven't built the bridge yet; I had to demolish the old one first. I'm trying to remove a bridge and put a different style of bridge in the exact same place. So I unfortunately don't really have a backup plan - my dirt paths are going to look super weird if there's suddenly no bridge.

Ah gotcha! Ugh that is such a pain too that you can't just double check first, particularly cos I'm assuming it is an original bridge that you're demolishing! I'll have a little look around to see if I can find more info on the new requirements, but like you I knew they had become more lax, but no idea how much so!

Also it might help us to see a picture of the rock and the original bridge, which you could definitely achieve with a new character?

I'm sorry you're going through this, and definitely keep us updated :)

This (unfortunately tiny) thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimalCrossing/comments/5aucku/amiibo_update_faq/d9l039m/?context=10000 is all I could really find about the bridges, which seems to say that it is a lot better with PWP's after the update. We also have to remember that an actual PWP or Villager house can be placed next to the rock, with only the PWP/House requiring a 1 space buffer. I feel like that all adds up to the fact that you should be able to build the bridge in the same spot... it's just gonna have to be a test it and see situation I think :(

Anyone else have another view on the subject?

I thought I replied to this yesterday!

Thank you so much for all your feedback, Rochelle! I really appreciate the effort you put into helping me. I used the startup screen to take a picture of the rock placement, and I think that a new bridge will work there after the update. Second opinions, anyone?

The rock is about to 3-4 spaces away from where you want to put the bridge. That'll surely work.

In terms of where holes can be dug, it's only two spaces diagonally from the corner of the bridge to the rock, but I still think it will probably be okay.

I had mine before literally one space away from the rock (even though it's vertical. Had to take it down though, 'coz I wanted more symmetry with all of my bridges). If more than that like in your case, 2 spaces away, I'm sure they would work no matter how you want to put the bridge. I also notice that, for some reason, the bridge requirement is so forgiving now lol I wouldn't say I'm complaining. That's for the better.

No worries, I've been away for a while but I thought I'd pop back and see how you went, have you tried the bridge yet? It certainly does look far enough away!
