Just a quick disclaimer before I begin to ramble on (lol). Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so if you don't agree with what I'm saying, that's super fine! Don't think of this post as a way of antagonizing those that don't agree with my statement.
I think, over the last couple of weeks, I've seen more and more people (either here or through social media) wanting more out of the game. I understand the need for new content, because it gives us more things to do and more to look forward to. Let me be clear, I want more content as well. For sure. But I'm afraid I might not want it the way most people want it to happen in NH. I think most people want more builds, and more NPC's in the game - or to put it bluntly, to bring back things from NL that are not present in NH. I personally don't want a NL 2.0. I never connected with the game and the biggest issue I had with it was the over abundance of things but at the same time, the lack of those same things.
Sure, we had plenty of NPC's back in NL. Tons. More than we've ever had. But unlike most games in the series, they were lifeless. NPC dialogue in NL was awful, watered down to nothing and entire characters (while being present), were butchered nonetheless (take Blathers and his babbling or even Celeste being in charge of a store (???), and don't even get me started with Able's). We had more villagers, more animal species and new personalities in the game and yet, probably the worst take on villager dialogue in the entire series. Repetitive, simple and entirely based on "bring me this, trade me that, catch me this/that fish/bug, etc". And we had tooons and toons of buildings and places to visit but no depth to them. We had a post office but can't send letters? We had Katrina's building and yet the amount of options and interactions with Katrina were extremely limited compared to previous games.
I'd say, and probably unlike the majority of us here, I'm very pleased with how NPC's are addressed in NH. They have much more depth compared to NL. Ables have a backstory again (you can start conversations with Sable, like we used to in WW and CF), Blathers is babbling again, Celeste is all about constellations and stars once more, Flick and C.J are, imo, much more interesting than what Chip and Nat were, tbh, and a long etcetera.
As for builds, I'm quite afraid having this huge influx of new builds (considering all the rumors/data mine is correct, of course; again, grain of salt), that we're forced to play a theme unlike what we had envisioned for our islands on the first place. I certainly wouldn't get this, considering how Nintendo has pushed the idea of "customize your island the way you want" since its announcement. I can't play the game the way I want it if you're forcing me to build things in it and destroying the theme I'm so thoroughly trying to build (i.e. don't make me build a city if I want to build a town).
I don't know what everyone else thinks, but again, this is no way an attack to how people want or expect to play NH. I also understand that this game is probably not gonna make everyone happy here, and I'm okay with that. If they decide to overload the game with builds or empty NPC's, I'll adapt, but I certainly don't want that to happen.
