Unpopular Opinion: NMT is literally useless

I posted something similar about this before but the prevalency of NMT as the main form of currency right now is starting to annoy me. I just don't understand why, especially when selling or trading villagers. If you already have a town full of dreamies what the heck are you gonna do with 400 + NMT?? You can ony buy so much nook furniture and maybe get extra resources from islands? In a few months to a year, I think NMT will be practically useless once everyone has their perfect towns.

I think they'll still be useful for the people who aren't only getting their dreamies.

I really like having randoms come to my island just because It means I get to meet new villagers. I don't trade for villagers at all. This means that the NMT are still going to be useful for me whenever a resident moves out, because then I can go to the islands and find someone else.

Are they really randoms though if you go seek them out on islands? Or do you just take the first one you come across?

I want randoms to move to my island but I enjoy going to islands so I try to do both but then I see a villager I dont really want and end up island hopping for a bit lol I have no self control

While I do completely agree that seeing massive amounts being used for trades is dumb as heck, I have to disagree that they're useless. They ARE useful.

  1. Player 1 gets desirable villager, but does not want it.
  2. Player 1 sells villager for 50 NMT to Player 2.
  3. Player 2 is happy with purchase of villager.
  4. Player 1 can then use those 50 NMT to search for a chance at a more desirable villager, or another villager they can sell.
  5. Repeat until goal is achieved.
Bonus is that you get materials and goodies as well.

It's still dumb how inflated they've become, though. It's like Bells don't exist to them.

I don't necessarily take the first one I come across, but I do take the first one that I deem not too ugly :P
Pretty much as long as theyre not Diva or Quillson, I don't mind inviting them.

Also, I'm limited by the amount of effort I feel like putting in, which is usually not that much. So its pretty much the first one that Im ok with within 5 tickets.

Actually going to islands is pretty useless, yeah. Depending on how much effort you're willing to put in to island hop. They're just a secondary form of currency worth more than a bag of 99 bells + stackable, to make trading a little more convenient.

It is frustrating, but that's how it is- if the demand decreases, NMT will fall more strongly out of favor. Seems like there's a demand right now, though, and it will likely continue to play a part of the NH economy.

I'm not sure I fully understand the actual in-game value of having hundreds of thousands of nook tickets, but I understand the perceived value on the forums because people are selling villagers they don't want to afford ones they do. As long as there's people playing the game and working on their towns at their own pace, I think that'll be the case.

Personally, I don't "get" the economy here now at all though. I've even seen things devolve into real money trading like, blatantly. Are people really so desperate?
I literally cannot imagine paying more than like 10 tickets at absolute maximum for anything. I'm a pretty slow-paced player by Bell Tree standards and I also just give my leaving villagers away because I think the whole thing is silly, so I can't really even afford more than that.

thats true! it is a tool for trading but maybe if Nintendo starts reprinting amiibo cards (with the new villagers) again some people will start scanning in their dreamies making the demand for NMT go down. I just can't wrap my head around selling my villagers for even 20+ NMT because I personally have no need for it. If I ever wanted to sell my Raymond for example I would only want IGB, but I'm coming from a place where im happy with my villagers.

Aw I love Quilson! He's always singing in my town lol.

I don't mind NMT being a conversion of 200K-250K bells. Making multiple trips for big trades (usually only villagers) is a massive pain due to Nintendo's terrible online setup.

the funny thing is that everyone i know irl is grinding HARD for igb, and think it's weird that i'm grinding for nmt (i have enough bells for now thanks to tarantula farming on the islands, and i like island hopping! which is an unpopular opinion i guess lmao).

despite having legitimately grinded out 100k+ nook miles, i would never pay the amounts i've been seeing floating around for trades and stuff.

They're not useless though. I understand the absurdity of the 400+ tickets, but with the current system, it's way more efficient than transporting bells. For personal use, as long as you still have villagers you want. I know it takes a lot to get them, but there are tons of money possibilities for those who are dedicated enough. (Tarantula island)

I think you're the first person I've met who likes him hahahaa
Haha I think I only like him because my boyfriend likes him tbh... He wouldn't let me get rid of him & then he just grew on me. His singing is annoying sometimes but also endearing.

Basically yeah. It's just fresh and useful because the game is still new so people are still getting their dreamies. Thank god for the fact that I have all the cards or else I'd be in that moshpit of selling my soul for NMT.

Quillson was a nightmare for me I just don't like him for many reasons but this isn't a rant thread!

thats true in terms of transportation but if I wanted to make bank off tarantula island i would just ask for equal amount in bells instead for a trade? also tarantulas go out of season by the end of this month if you dont TT, maybe nook islands will be more profitable in the summer.
