As a lot of people here know, giving a villager a 'better' item than she asked for does more to boost your 'friendship level.' For instance, if Hamphrey asked for a peach and I gave him a perfect peach, he gets excited to the point of almost choking on it, and emphasizes how happy he is to be my friend. And another villager might ask for 'any ocean fish' and get a whale shark back, much to their shock.

Well, does unorderable stationary also have an 'exaggerated' effect on 'friendship level'? After all, villagers encourage you to mail them, and sometimes make comments on the type of stationary used (at least the ones they use). So would it take them aback, so to speak, to receive a letter from you on unorderable stationary?

Or is unorderable stationary simply a matter of aesthetics (i.e., something to have because it is a collector's item)?

I've never had a villager comment on the stationery that I send to them. My guess is it wouldn't matter, and I'm not sending out my non-replaceable stationery to test that theory either, lol! I'd think if it were going to count as a rare item, it might be more useful sent as a gift rather than the stationery the gift was attached to, but even then I can't picture a villager getting excited by stationery.

Hm... now I am tempted to get a rare stationary to try it out, since I have no interest in hanging onto one, heh.

Also, just read in a more recent topic, 'The Letter Resource,' that maybe such practices as filling up every line of he letter and using symbols has a positive effect. Makes me think again that maybe it is not too farfetched for rare stationary to have a positive effect, too.

Anyone tested this theory?

No I haven't tested it...I don't think it makes a difference. From what I have seen the villager will just randomly send you any stationary including the unorderable. Tangy sent the museum set last week to an alt that barely writes (definitely no medal). I do know that when I sent all the villagers stationary repeatedly in hopes of getting stationary back that it did not . If you want to try it, I have extra.

Okay I just tried it so we will see..

My villagers didn't care at all that I had used unorderable paper. They all sent me notes back of the standard variety.

Cool. Thank you for giving it a shot.

If the villager used unorderable stationary for an 'alternative' mayor who has not bothered climbing the 'friendship ladder' with him, seems obviously random then. I was hoping there might be evidence that perhaps the unorderable is sent if you are high enough up the 'friendship ladder,' and not possibly if you just started your town and they just moved in.

Ah. Thank you. And sorry about the used unorderable stationary. :o

I don't think it has to do with friendship. I've tted to enough bday parties with my mayor at the highest level of friendship and he never got unorderable paper ( he has the gold letter badge too)

This randomness disappointed me. When I got my first unorderable paper from Grizzly, I thought I was special. I hunted down the other papers, as you know, but then one of my alts who basically never writes anyone got some. So unfair:mad: I had my main character swipe it. She deserved it more.

lol Swiping is fair when it comes to unorderables! I was shocked when a villager gifted me an orange rose in the mail too. I've gifted hybrids before to see what would happen and ...nothing

I have to agree with the above statements. I do not think that the unavailability of the paper impacts or invokes the reception of the villager to be more positive. However, I am curious if the type of paper plays any role in this. As certain villagers have certain furniture, clothing, or items they desire more for their birthday, I wonder if giving them a paper similar to their tastes affects this. For example, giving Marina a letter written in lovely stationary as opposed to another.
