Two hours and nothing... I really want to complain...

I tried looking for this a couple weeks back. Someone told me to bring more palm trees and thats what I did. I think it took me at least 3 hours to find it tho. But I did clear the island of everything possible. My only suggestion is to stick with one island once you start hunting since I don't think island hopping would do any better.

Agreed, I stayed up for hours wandering my island attempting to find one! Just as I hit the - button to save and quit, I saw a glimmer in the distance and there it was! So don't give up hope, you'll get it eventually I'm sure!

I feel like Nintendo sort of did a dirty to player by reducing the spawn rate, as a lot of players will just give up if it takes them so long. I remember in nl where the golden stag was rare but not to rare where you would hunt it down for 3 irl days.

I think the reasoning to this is simply the game economy.

In New Leaf not only did you have your house to pay off (which each room had itself about 3 additional costs to expand), you had bridge construction as well expensive PWPs to pay off.

So having a constant place with high selling bugs and fish year round was really helpful to have and bring in a steady cash flow not to freeze your town or house growth.

Whilst in New Horizons, the number of room upgrades have decreased by a fair amount and the only other cash donations you need are for the bridges/inclines. Nook Miles taking over PWP purchases and earing those simply by playing the game.

But the ways to make money have increased, such as CJ and Flick.

They simply didn't want players to literally pay off everything so easily. I also think this is why some furniture prices increased, to slow down bell saving to pay off your house.

Yeah I’m completely understand and get why Nintendo did they. But for the people who like completing their citterpedia and not raising money it would be annoying. It’s like how with the pier fish you hear story’s of people using 200+ bait just to catch one pier fish

They are so dark in this game.

The scarab is silver instead of gold now too.

I've spent all day trying to find a golden stag because Flick is on the island, and set the time back to just after 6am several times.

Ten hours later... no luck.

I ended up letting the two I had saved, go.

I caught everything between 11PM-1AM. The only thing I've seen a drop in is giant and scarab beetles really. I've caught the two gold ones I've owned post 1.4.

I planted a lot of palm trees on our island to increase the chance. Scare off the other bugs on palm tree might help. There are still several days left, don’t give up hope!

I had this same struggle! It helped to try on a mystery island because I could chop down trees I didn't want bug spawns on and I could run around to try to get the spawns I wanted.

Just wanna say I feel your pain 😔 I did so much demolishing of mystery islands within the past week to get that dang golden stag, I was. Beyond frustrated. One night I spent three hours looping an island. The next night, I went to an island and had just pulled out my axe to start chopping trees and. there it was. sitting on a palm tree. before I had even finished removing flowers.

never crept up on a bug so slowly in my whole AC game experiences
Ya the Bug was saying" You called?" I Hate when Bugs i am looking for show up like at. At why I Do not like nintendo Missing with the spawn Rate. They was trying to make it easy but made other bugs harder as a aftereffect.

Took me probably 3 hrs to find a golden stag, so I feel your pain. I still need a Horned Hercules and have yet to see one. 😭

I do the trick of going to a flat mystery island, chopping down all the trees, breaking the rocks and picking flowers. I didn't think to bring my own palm trees to increase the spawn though, so definitely gonna try that.

This was my chase beetle for the season. I ended up taking 4 full grown trees with me on a mystery tour, and lucked into bamboo island. Took a few days to find one, but once I did, I found a few more after. Once I had enough to donate one and give three to Flick, I was satisfied. Don't give up on your search, because it's one of the more satisfying finds.
I Did not know about at trick. I did not know you can plant trees on those island.

It took me All day for two days to find one. I Just Gone To mystery Island when they do spawn and clear out a island of flowers and so on. Then Line up the trees and run up and down the row till i see it. My Running was far away so i do not scare it but close so i can see the bugs on the tree. I Hope at help

Thanks everyone for commenting and leaving some suggestions to help find it easier. I finally found one like literally ten minutes after posting this, so my mom is all good now. 😂

some of the rarer bugs I haven't even tried looking for yet because the burnout has been strong and I just do NOT have the energy to go find them but... i should probably try and catch some of them sooner rather than later

I'm having the same problem. I went to three different mystery islands last night with extra palm trees in my pocket to up the chances of finding the golden stag. Every time I thought I saw one, it was the rainbow stag. There was one I was sure looked different, but it ran away even though I wasn't even that close to it. Another one is the scarab. I've never even seen it on my island or any of the mystery islands. I agree that the beetles that spawn on regular trees shouldn't spawn on palm trees. It just makes finding the rare ones so difficult.

I don't believe that for a second. Bugs and fish are a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. If they didn't want people earning too much money too fast, they would prevent you from selling turnips on other people's islands. (note: I am just saying that this is the objectively logical thing to do if that was Nintendo's worry, so please no one start shrieking at me as if I'm actually advocating for it.)

Also, there's a world of difference between making them rare enough to not tempt people into farming them and making them so hard to find that people can spend several hours a day searching for the entire three-month period they appear in only to not find them at all. One is... kinda fine I guess. Every game has its challenges. But the other is just cruel. Making people have to leave their Critterpedias/museums unfinished for an entire year through no fault of their own is gross.

It took me 8 days to find a Hercules. I searched every day for a few hours at least. RNG is just that bad sometimes.

yeah you have to be very careful, the gold stag is very sensitive to movement and has a very wide viewing range

I'm still on the search for this bug too, I wasted once 3+ hours on a day and no luck. Had to take a break ever since then, since I suffer from Joy-Con drift and trying to catch any bugs with this is just painful. 😐
