Right now at this very moment I'm currently trying to help my mom find the golden stag and I've spent the last two hours searching for it on two different mystery tour islands and nothing but these common bugs have appeared...

No offense Nintendo, but changing the spawn rates of the bugs and making it so that the regular tree beetles are allowed to appear on the palm trees too was the worst idea ever...

I'm not too annoyed by the spawn rate, but only palm tree beetles should appear on the palm trees and not these other common beetles like the myiama stag, which should only appear on the regular trees...

Enough said... 😔

Just wanna say I feel your pain 😔 I did so much demolishing of mystery islands within the past week to get that dang golden stag, I was. Beyond frustrated. One night I spent three hours looping an island. The next night, I went to an island and had just pulled out my axe to start chopping trees and. there it was. sitting on a palm tree. before I had even finished removing flowers.

never crept up on a bug so slowly in my whole AC game experiences

I caught three the other night. Get 2-3 NMT and snag some palms trees from them. Make your you pick and island with ground spawns at night of course, and plant the palm trees on the beach and just strip the rest of the island. Pick all the flowers, break all the rocks, chop all the other trees and remove the stumps. You'll be left with beatle ground spawns to chase away and the occasional scorpion and lots of beatle spawns on the palm trees. Keep chasing away the garbage miyami, dynastid, and the green ones (forget the name). Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

They key is to chase away the garbage spawns as fast as possible. So just keep circling the island.

I feel your frustration. This is the first game where I've had some bugs elude me for a month or more because of their spawn rate despite playing for hours most days. I'll likely end up using the method above to get them.

I got the golden stag last night, took 2.5 hours of farming on a mystery island. I still need to catch a horned Hercules.

One thing I noticed the last 3 times I did this though was the spawn rate for the Giant Stage, well it doesn't seem to spawn at all. Back in 1.3 I'd get 5 or 6 a trip. Now I am getting the elephant beetle, cyclomantus, and horned atlas much more.

It's too bad they nerfed the spawn rates. With the millions of bells that people are making travelling to islands to sell turnips, I don't see how being able to profit off of bugs was a bad thing. Seems they went too far.

I haven't caught a few of the rarer beetles yet, but haven't really gone looking. When I was trying to get a shark and a citrus beetle for the fair events, I'd just enter and exit my house and check until they spawned.

Getting these on your island is, well...I fool's errand. Every flower, normal tree, and rock competes with these spawns. That, and you also have the crappy palm tree spawns as well.

I've been searching for THREE WEEKS to find a third one for a model.

They are so dark in this game, and it's been so long since I last saw one, that I have literally forgotten what they look like.

I really miss New Leaf and the better, yes better, beetle graphics and spawn rates.

At this point, I would've been happier with a port of NL instead of this... grind of a game that, if you really think about it, each activity is utterly painstaking.

Not fun in the least.

very smart thing to have done, they are extremely sensitive. scared away two thinking i was far enough away to not creep yet

I caught everyone one of them except the golden stag in one night in maybe 2-3 hours. The golden stag has a pretty different look to it. The main thing you have to do is constantly sprint away the dynastid, miyami and saw stags which I admit in the dark I thought might be good ones instead until I went back and looked at pics. I think the easiest to potentially screw up is the horned atlis and the dynastid at quick glance.

The scarab is silver instead of gold now too.

I've spent all day trying to find a golden stag because Flick is on the island, and set the time back to just after 6am several times.

Ten hours later... no luck.

I ended up letting the two I had saved, go.

What I do is I go to an island, pocket the palm trees.

Go to the next island and cut down the hardwood trees, uproot the stumps and pluck the flowers to prevent all those spawns. (You'll still have to check for ground and water beetles, hermit crabs and wharf roaches. Catch and release any Mosquito spawn.

Now plant the extra palm trees and rearrange them so you have enough space to catch bugs without scaring away others.

You've now potential doubled the spawn rate.

It definitely took me a bit to find it, for sure gotta plant as many palm trees as you can. When I found mine, you kind of just gotta run into it by accident.

Oh its still golden, just a realistic metallic gold shine.

Not a comical opaque yellow.

I feel like Nintendo sort of did a dirty to player by reducing the spawn rate, as a lot of players will just give up if it takes them so long. I remember in nl where the golden stag was rare but not to rare where you would hunt it down for 3 irl days.

This was my chase beetle for the season. I ended up taking 4 full grown trees with me on a mystery tour, and lucked into bamboo island. Took a few days to find one, but once I did, I found a few more after. Once I had enough to donate one and give three to Flick, I was satisfied. Don't give up on your search, because it's one of the more satisfying finds.
