Tumblr feelings

tumblr is a great website but only if you completely avoid the sjw/political side of it
while it's important to educate urself about social and political issues, the majority of the information on tumblr is coming from teenagers who have serious incapabilities when it comes 2 carrying out normal social functions. u will often find the idiots who make those impassioned and bitter posts on tumblr about white ppl being inherently racist and cisgendered people being evil regardless of their personality traits are the same idiots who are like 'my idea of fun in staying in my room on the internet. girls who like to go out and party and do shots are inferior. i read books i hate parties and people'

like for real it's almost like tumblr is just trying to force everyone to believe that some part of them is problematic, it sees things as a scale like oh??? ur a black man?? well yeah i mean the whole world hates you by default but u dont have it as bad as... as black woman!!! they have more oppression points than u. like seriously if you opened a debate on tumblr on who is worse off: a white, straight, cis man with stage IV cancer who has approx. 6 months to live, or a black woman who grew up in a wealthy family with plenty of opportunities, the whole place would just blow up and tbh they'd probably decide the black woman has the worse life because she is a victim of systematic opression or something absolutely ridiculous like that

that part of tumblr is insidiuous and it's really easy to get caught up on it and start finding something wrong in everything u see instead of just accepting things as they are and continuing to live ur life

honestly I can hardly even stand the non-sjw/political side of tumblr with how much everyone posts others works without proper sourcing, rather intentional or not

I still have my account open to reblog things of interest, but really the number of accounts I actively follow is small enough that I just have them bookmarked to go straight to the blogs themselves and not even bother with my main feed

also tbh I find tumblr's site coding to be pretty crap too, which is a pretty huge factor alone in my avoiding the main feed

Tumblr often fosters and almost encourages mental illness.

If you are legitimately someone who experiences dissociation I think you should address it outside of Tumblr. I see a lot of self-diagnosis and these people who think it's fun or quirky completely undermine the people who actually suffer from these illnesses.

You say you are a child so you are at an age where you are easily influenced and I think tumblr can be an abrasive community that doesn't have much tolerance as far as different political/social beliefs go. You're 14 you have plenty of time to grow as a person but you need to do it on your own, not because because Tumblr tells you.

While I am all for acceptance and progress for those of all race, religion, gender, etc. I just want to remind you that political correctness does not equate to truth. It's okay to have opinions that tumblr doesn't agree with. So many people adopt the opinions that are acceptable on tumblr without thinking critically for themselves.

trust me, i already have tumblr savior and xkit. a lot of problems also come from the negative stigma surrounding tumblr, and from the same kind of people as some who've posted here.

I do support self-diagnosis, but in a serious sense. If you say you have ADHD because an online test said so and you're hyper, that's pretty disrespectful to people who actually have that disorder. If you feel like you identify with every aspect of ADHD you've heard about for a few years and believe you have it too, I totally understand that. I feel like that too, but since it's self-diagnosed I try to think as if I don't have ADHD, until I'm able to get a professional diagnosis.

You're totally right about how I should have knowledge and experience outside of Tumblr, but I'm super paranoid that whatever opinion I have is going to be morally wrong. For example, if I support nounself pronouns, I'm disrespecting the trans and enby community as a whole and am accessorizing pronouns. If I'm against nounself pronouns, I'm still disrespecting the trans community because I'm invalidating what some people feel healthy identifying as. There's just no way for me to win, there's no way for me to be a good person.

And abandoning Tumblr isn't really an option right now--some of my friends are suicidal and I need to be there for them, and Tumblr's the only place where I can hope to hear from my girlfriend again. Besides, there's a lot of good content on Tumblr too. And like I've said, the negative vibes I get also come from outside of Tumblr and my own mentality.

*Reminisces about the old times like when people thought you could have infinite chocolate by cutting it a certain way*

holy hell i remember that infinite chocolate post. i'm crying.

You shouldn't need to feel so paranoid. You are only 14 and in all honesty I feel like 14 year olds should be worrying about other things than how they will offend other people on the internet. As long as you are respectful and understanding of the people who surround you, then don't worry if you upset someone who is incredibly overly-sensitive on Tumblr...

Like, to be honest, I do like Tumblr as a site, it helped me to understand my depression a little bit more but I chose not to take everything they say on the site too seriously. I suppose it helped me know which way to look for help and good strategies that people use to cope with it, but I also hate how people romanticise mental illness on Tumblr and in fact on any form of social media. Mental illness is not fun or cute or quirky or cool, it's something that ruins lives and it has burdened my life more than I could ever imagine... Back to my main point though - a lot of people on Tumblr tend to just live in this little world that's disconnected from reality a lot of the time. They assume that people will automatically understand using someone elses preferred pronouns, for example, and get incredibly and extremely distraught if they do not use them properly. I mean, I've messed up someones pronouns before but it was an honest mistake... All the person did was they just corrected me and that was that, we moved on. But if it happens on Tumblr it's like the end of the world and you're literally the worst person to ever exist. To be honest, mistakes happen, and that's okay sometimes you know? We're not all perfect but I think the best thing you can do is just be open minded and be respectful for others in the best way you can be. I want to say "Don't worry about offending others", but of course, as long as you're just respectful and kind to others then I don't see what the problem would be. You're still young so you still have time to form your own opinions, and even if they differ from what perhaps the hivemind believe on Tumblr, that's still okay, you're entitled to your own opinion, and just because some angry 15 year old social justice-mad blogger tries to tell you otherwise, does not mean you are wrong for thinking the way you do.

You'll find in life as you get older there are lots of different people out there with different thoughts and opinions. There is no ONE truly morally right or wrong way to act. It's impossible. It's subjective. But if you act in the way that you believe is best then that will ultimately make you happiest.

Morals are a personal thing and someone's gonna disagree with you no matter what you do. People are gonna disagree with you if you say "I want everyone in the world to be happy with substantial living space and plenty of food and water".

Just form your own ideas and if people hate you for it, that's too bad. Just have some reason to back it up and don't completely disregard others' views before taking what they have to say into consideration.

i didn't want to respond to any unhelpful and useless replies but i just wanted to say how ironic it is that i walked my dog just before seeing this

these are pieces of really good advice, and it does help. thank you

If you're relying on the internet to guide you through your sexuality, you're doing it wrong. Good luck in what you do, PM me if you want a more honest opinion.

Tbh I only go on Tumblr for just some of those "funny" posts or those really cute pictures, or for ACNL purposes, I don't use it for anything else because the rest of it is sort of trash in my opinion, not trying to insult yours/anyways opinion in anyway. I just fond to hard taking some of the stuff on it seriously. And lie trundle said above, you shouldn't rely on the internet to guide you through your sexuality.

To be honest, I think the internet can be a useful resource for a lot of people. I certainly learned a lot of different things from meeting new people and going on websites such as Tumblr and different forums. Of course there's a lot of rubbish out on the internet but it certainly can help educate you if used correctly. In all honesty, I never knew that other sexualities existed until I started using the internet more independently and discovered there were people who were bisexual or pansexual. Unfortunately a lot of stuff like that is not readily accessible or easy for other people to find out about or learn about in schools and such, for example. It was useful for me to learn about those things because then it helped me to begin to understand my sexuality too and that it was normal for me to like both females and males.

Of course, like I said, there's a lot of rubbish on the internet, and you can't really trust everything you read on places like Tumblr where misinformed news articles and such are thrown about left right and centre. But I still think the internet can still be very valuable to us as humans, provided we use it right.

the internet can be dangerous, yet sometimes can be the best thing ever...but not tumblr. NO. tumblr takes over your life. its not worth it. just get rid of it

ahh i remember the good ol days when one of my mutuals self-diagnosed with borderline because they thought they looked like an anime character.

they were pretty ugly tho they had the whole emo haircut and they had more picked-at acne than clear skin and they had rolls of fat
honestly i see everyone as cute in their own way but this person was a exception
and they would complain about how they wanted to get better and lose weight and actually go outside but the next post would be like a picture of three empty boxes of pizza captioned "i am a smol child, feed me uwu"

(so basically a adolescent neckbeard

It can be used well. I do not believe that at age 14 the internet is the best way to find out your sexuality. OP said they were changing their gender every few months. I don't think what people realize is that feeling certain ways at certain times of your life does not constitute you to be a different gender. Nor does "liking boy stuff" or "liking girl stuff". If people were really trying to be more accepting, people would be people, and they would not look at gender as anything different than your sex. Instead, tumblr has developed a special snowflake mentality where everyone gets to feel special in their own groups and no one can tell them how they feel is wrong.

Well, they can be wrong. It's that simple.

actually the funniest thing on tumblr for me is talking to that one section of neo nazis on tumblr that just circlejerk and reblog hitler and think theyre Himmler reborn im not kidding ok i found a nazi tumblr guy who was like, otherkin but didnt call himself thatr and said he was the reincarnated version of himmler.

also found a neo nazi who turned out to be mixed race and half the neo nazi community on tumblr was divided about it. very entertaining. its like a soap opera but better

honestly i roll with people who mostly "troll" on there for fun, we have our own beliefs and i do discuss them sometimes but most the time my fave thing to do is to **** around with people on all sides. really arguing on tumblr is so ****ing funny to me.

generally if youre looking to get into more serious activism, get out and do something. dont argue with ppl on tumblr coz it doesnt matter. like at all. you're a tumblr communist? ok go join the local anti fascist group. ur a neo nazi?? go join the local klan or something. just anything.

most people arguing on tumblr about politics are very rarely actually engaged in them irl. i do work with a couple lgbt groups but ive mostly distanced myself because i have my own life to focus on. the "anti sjw" blogs on tumblr are pretty much people complaining about their liberal friends. unless youre like, ****in communismkills or something more often than not politics take a second seat in people's lives on tumblr.

- - - Post Merge - - -

basically, politics on tumblr are not that serious and dont matter, just follow people who are entertaining. or **** around on it for fun, whatever is cool.

I thought this was golden
