Hello, need some help with plot resetting again!

I did this once and it worked fine - asked a villager in campsite to move in, then TT'd to the day she actually moved in and created a new character to see where she'll put her house.

My problem is, the only way I know how to make this work seems to be by changing the system date and time rather than the in-game date and time (because you can only change time in-game through existing characters, I believe), and for some reason, it doesn't seem to work 100% accurately. For example, the last time I did this, I changed the system time to a day ahead, and for some reason, my game ended up jumping forward a week and a day in time ("tomorrow" was supposed to be Tuesday, December 31st, which is what my system clock said, but in-game it jumped to Tuesday, December 7th instead). Luckily no one moved away, but if it's this inconsistent every time then it could be a problem.

I tried changing the system time again today, and even though I made sure both the 3DS clock and New Leaf clock were identical (because I thought that was the problem the first time), when I moved the system time forward to 12pm the next day (Dec. 29th), in-game it only changed to 4am (also the 29th).

I hope my post isn't horribly confusing - I'll be happy to clarify my problem/concerns if this doesn't make sense. :) Thanks in advance!

I honestly just wait till the next day. But when I do change the time of the 3DS clock, I only go 1 day ahead and do not touch the time. Other than that, never seen this problem b4

Yeah, the in-game clock will space the time between them and the 3DS clock. So if you move 8 hours ahead on the system, ditto will happen to the in-game. But it's not vice versa. So if you move the in-game clock 8 hours ahead, the system clock does nothing. For plot resetting, go to 5:58 of the next day in the in-game clock. Save, quit, and wait 2-3 minutes. Then start up a new file. A plot should be there.

When plot resetting, I just go to 5:58 and create a new character since by the time I'm done, it's like 6:01 already

Wow, that is hella weird your case. If I were you, I'd just wait for tomorrow :B

I use the system clock 100% percent of the time (never touched in-game clock and never bother with the 5:58am stuff), and never had a problem like your describing (it's to the minute that I've told it to be). Are you sure you've set the in-game clock to the same exact time as the system clock?

I discovered that time discrepancy issue also a while back when I tried using the game clock instead of the system's. I have reverted back to using the system clock only.

To re-sync your clocks you need to set the game clock first, go into your game, save and quit; then go right back into the system clock and set that one to the same date/time as just set in-game maybe adding a minute for the delay in saving.

Of course, wait to do this until you have completed your new villager plot reset to ensure nothing goes wrong.
