Whenever I decide to start from scratch and create a brand new town, it has to meet three main requirements:

  1. The town hall centre has to be at the very north end of the town, I don't care where it just has to be at the north
  2. The Retail shop has to be in someone close proximity to the town hall
  3. The town's native fruit has to be peaches

The reasoning behind the town hall placement is simply *~aesthetics~*. I think the town hall being at the north looks more town-like, if that makes sense? I just don't like the look of it in the middle of the town.
The Retail placement is mostly convenience but I also like the way it looks when there relatively close.
And simply put, peaches are one of my most favourite fruits to eat and I like the way the look.
Of course if one of my dreamies is in that town then the native fruit requirement can be forfeited but the other two are pretty much manditory.

That being said, does anyone else have town requirements? If so why? If not, why not?

I absolutely love my town's map. Most of the villagers live in the bottom left quadrant created by the river's bend, which allows me to utilize the rest of the space the way I best wish. I don't use paths, so it takes some effort to maintain my forest. And I have no qualms with apples as my native fruit.

My town's dream address is 5D00-00EB-F1DC if you want to take a look, though I did destroy one of the three bridges recently to try to coax out a few more bridge PWPs from my villagers!

My town map requirements can change based on my theme or plans for my town. For instance, if I know I want to place my house in the north and build a large garden around it, I'll look for a map that can accomodate that requirement. But the next time I start up a town, I might have something different in mind and not need as much open space in the northern part of town.

I think the main things that are consistent requirements for me are:

- An interesting river shape. I like twists and turns versus a relatively straight river.
- The event plaza to be out of the way. I prefer it in a corner or off to one side instead of in the center of town.
- Good buiding placement. This may change slightly depending on my vision for the town, but I would never want the main buildings blocking what I saw as potential pathways early on. I also usually like them to be spread out a bit.
- Good pond placement. Similar to the building placement, this will depend on my plans, but I don't want ponds in the ways of potential pathways. I'm also not really fond of the pond that sometimes shows up behind Town Hall.

Other than that, I feel like I can work with just about anything else. I don't have a preference for the number of ponds or the type of grass, and my fruit preference may change with the town or just remain open.

I'm torn about the beach. At first I really hated having a private beach because it took me a while to get a wetsuit. I still don't like going there, but I've grown to appreciate the long connected beach that comes with it. In the end, I don't think I would let the beach determine whether I chose a map or not.

I can probably say I am absolutely the most picky person here about my town layout. For me to list everything I look in a town, would probably end up being practically a university essay, if not longer. I borderline look for perfection, which just is not possible without hacking which I will never do.

I'll leave a few major points, though:

1. Train Station's roof colour must be red or brown. No exception.
2. All facilities (Town Plaza, Re-Tail, Town Hall) must be well spaced out, with a few acceptions.
3. Minimum of one 'in the way' permanent rock.
4. Preferably the Town Hall's roof is grey or green.
5. At least 3 lakes.
6. I only like two or three river layouts, so I look for those when picking my town.

Mainly i just want the beach to be on the right side so that my museum is at the left? So that i can sit on that bench at main street and watch the sunrise at the right. I'm not sure why that side appeals to me more?

And i guess something i originally wanted was a river that split the map in half crosswise? I was having second thoughts about my current map because the river cuts it into thirds lengthwise and all the villagers are on the larger partition so it looks kinda cluttered. I'm trying to get over it though because the waterfall looks really pretty this way?

And i don't really have a preference for the native fruit but it's funny that i got cherries because in the town i was sharing with my friend last year, the villagers kept asking us to bring them cherries because there were none in the town for the longest time until phil gave us one :)))))

It depends on what the towns theme is but basically-

-Must have a large part of undisturbed or minimally disturbed land for the villagers houses. Disturbed as in ponds, rocks, edges ect...
-The Mayor's house is away from any big things, like buildings. Prefer undisturbed, minimal disturbance is okay if I can work around it.
-The mayors house has a large area of land in front for my gardens and such.
-The river can't be some stupid bend and curve everywhere river.
-Needs room for possible caf? and Police Station.
-Needs room for atleast one or two more alts.
-The beach idrc, I prefer one long running beach but it's not needed.
-I would prefer the native fruit to not be PEACHES as I already have 2 towns with that native fruit. However if I think the map is pretty great, I'd probably make an exception.
-Town Hall, ReTail and the plaza must be in decent spots for future pathwork. Really depends on the town once I get in it and walk around.

All this talk of town maps makes me wanna remake my other town quicker.

- I agree about Town Hall and Re-tail needing to be in the north
- Preferably, re-tail should not be far from the train station
- As few ponds as possible
- One huge beach and one tiny beach, as opposed to a beach being cut in half
- An area where Mayor?s house can be isolated
- Don?t really care what color train station is
- Town fruit is anything but peaches, I don?t like the look of perfect peaches
- Enough room to put all or 9/10 villager houses right next to eachother, making a neighborhood

1. All buildings have to be above the top part of the river for me.

2. Grass has to be circle ( the other types is very distracting for me).

3. Must be able to place all villagers on bottom half all next to each other all the way across (so no rocks there).

4. The river has to have a zig zag up and down.

I'm not too picky with my map, but I'm not a fan of the maps with the really thin areas above rivers.
Also don't like for the town tree to be in a very odd area. I like it in the corner.

So nothing weirdly shape. I like two big areas and a river, and I'm content.

I like either apples or cherries, plaza in the center, town hall near the plaza, and re-tail near the beach ramp. I like it when everything is in nice lines, so I really lucked out with my map.

-decently spaced land, with any ponds/lakes either close together or very small and the river not making any weird strips.
-Any fruit besides oranges
-... just generally doesn’t... suck xD I’m picky but not in any specific way, if that makes sense.

I'm trying not to be too picky about the maps I choose because sometimes the resetting process takes so much out of me that I get bored easily, but if I had to be picky, here's what I would like:

Town plaza in the middle of map
Retail down by the beach (for easy access to selling bugs and fish from the island)
Town hall can be anywhere (don't really mind if it's in a random place)
Got to have either apples, oranges, or peaches (don't like cherries or pears much)
Circle grass
Also and maybe, a short river for easy fishing

That might be being a bit too picky, but I've cycled through hundreds of maps and that's what I like so far, so yeah... :)
