Town gone

I did time Traval a lot but not going to now

Like I said, I'm not sure how true it is. I time travel constantly and nothing's happened so you should be fine. I think it's a rumor that started with someone blaming a corruption on TTing

Same here. I tend to TT a lot but nothing's happened so far *knocks on wood* I think it is just a rumour but I'm not sure.

I know this is stupid, but what's TT'ing. I'm not very good with these abbreviations.

TT'ing or Time Traveling is when you change the time on your game to go forward or backward :o

Also, sorry about your town being gone :C That's one of my biggest fears too especially now that I've completed my dreamies list.

I'm sorry this happened to you :( I hope you'll recover your town soon and possibly make it better!

If you have the Eshop version it can be things like the SD card getting destroyed, that DS getting broken, along the all the usual things. I've even heard TTing can corrupt your game in very rare circumstances, although I don't know how true it is.

The tting part is not true i'm sure pf it because I tt all the time!

things like duping and plot resetting at said to make it corrupt but nobody knows why it happens...

Yup, Misty. Like I said before, it's probably a rumor (I TT a lot too), but some sources say that it can corrupt the game- and I doubt they have any truth behind them. But you are right in saying that nobody knows why it happens; it's a mystery for the AC community. Lots of people have had their game corrupted after using hacking devices, and duping. I don't think plot resetting can corrupt your game because, I, and many others have done it before and everything was fine ^^. A lot of the time it happens because of bad luck.

I have tt in ever since wild world and have never had a problem so it is probably a rumor :) (I hope so!) It mostly has something to do with digital copies (because of the SD card and other problems) never knew a normal copy could corrupt?? that is something new.... just a case of back luck like you said ~

Yep. Even things like visiting a hacked town (via train station and not dream suite) could corrupt your town. It's incredibly unlikely, though

I constantly TT and it has never been a problem for me. I doubt that's what caused this.

Sorry your town is gone :(

hacking does have a huge impact...it does put your town at risk by a lot...

but it is a risk you take I guess... ~

If you can be bothered to take it. I'm lazy and ain't nobody got time to buy a hacking machine that is compatible with the current update.

I'm one update out... I was so mad XD but I don't really care now... I rather play fairly... to be honest I'm far to lazy to care, I would get bored so quickly....

I'm on mobile so I can't grab it, but if you check through my past posts I posted a huge block of text detailing data corruption. I'll edit it in here when I'm home, but for now you gotta search if you are interested.

What I can afford to mention right now is that TTing does not cause corruption. Corruption is mainly caused by damage to the system or the SD card. Having the digital copy does not mean you will be corrupted by any means. Just as many carts have faced corruption.

Hacking and duping can corrupt you but chances are slim if you're doing both correctly. Plot resetting is said to cause corruption but I call bull on it. TTing alone will not cause it. There are numerous rumors and misconceptions about corruption and some people have worse luck than others.

But if you wanna lower your chances then simply keep your hardware safe and make sure your SD card is good and supported by Nintendo (worth noting: people have corrupted with the default SD card included with the system. I suggest yanking that thing if you can and using a bigger card with a better name. Try SanDisk). You won't lose your data from TTing and resetting because trust me I have done both more than any normal person should and I am on a digital copy that I've had since launch.

Trust me. It's not as common or scary as it seems. OP is unfortunate but the culprit is most probably the hardware or some other cause that we don't know of.

OP I am interested to know which SD card you're using on your system.

That is an excellent explanation. I thank you

Have you done any sort of backing up with your SD card, such as copying and pasting your SD card's files to your computer for a backup? Or have you done any sort of file searchinf at all?

If the game recognizes that the previously saved data is different from the currently loaded one, the game will ask for you to delete your town's data. This happens if people back up SD card data, play a digital copy of AC:NL and start a new town, save, and then bring the backed up data to your SD card. People who weren't aware of this and just wanted to experience what it was like to a start a new town had their towns corrupted.

It's best to just stay away from your SD card and only read it when you want to upload pictures. I'm aware that you probably NEVER touched your SD card, but just some advice for the future to avoid possible corruption.
