Anyone remember this?

My brother and I were just discussing the... science, is it? The programming? Where these items are sourced/if they come directly grabbed from within the binary of the game, or somewhere else. And why on earth, when a present is received, he gives you this weird string of code?

I mean what does it even mean? Why does this happen? How intentional was this process of exploitation, and could someone break down exactly what was going on in the game when this transpired?

As an alternate note, if anyone has any history on 'seeding' from AC:WW, that would be appreciated too.

I believe it was some sort of Japanese feature that wasn't fully translated, but is functional. I use to use this to get an insane amount of turnips, lol.

It's designed so that you can trade items with people far away. If you give something to Tom Nook, he will generate a code for you, you tell your friend the code, they input it and receive the item. The weird string of code you refer to isn't random, IIRC it's supposed to say the name and the town of the player you received the item from. Back in the day, before Wild World, this was the only way to trade items with people who didn't live close by and whose memory card you didn't have access to. I did this many times with users on AXA, a now shut-down AC forum. Nintendo would also put out codes you could type in to get items like Mario furniture, NES games, etc.
