To Path or Not Path? That is the custom question

there’s a lot of gorgeous custom paths out there! i’m bothered by the fact that they don’t make noise, too, but i still prefer custom paths over the nook mile ones aha.

i’ve changed designs a few times over the last few months but here are some of my personal favourites so far;

i’ve mostly seen people use this one to make bridges or to decorate their pier but i think this would look nice as a path, too!

there’s honestly so many different options out there but these are a few that i’ve saved aha. i’m currently using a rainbow pattern for my path (not the plank one) and even though i’m not thrilled about it not making noise when i walk on it, i still love it a lot and am happy with it despite that one lil flaw c’:

Initially I wanted to use the stone path, but I found it hard since long straight paths with no "curving" looked strange to me. My OCD would go wild when I couldn't line up a diagonal stone bridge with the pathing I placed.

I now use custom pathing, and I use "the path". It makes me happy and i feel it goes really well with my island but it definitely is tedious and annoying to use, since you can easily erase it without intending too. I wish placing custom pathing was linked to island designer, and that it couldn't be changed unless you have island designer on.

I like custom paths as I feel I can move and make bendy paths and move them around plants and flowers.

I have a mix of both on my island, the in-game ones because they're nice and show up on the map, and the custom ones because they have more room for variation and creativity, and I did enjoy making them. (One of my path sets is based on my new leaf town, the other tiles I just think look neat)

I don't really see accidentally erasing them as an issue, it happens to me only like once a month or so. And then it takes ten seconds to fix. I don't think I'm even being particularly careful about where I stand, it seems to me that the game really prioritises all the other actions over erasing path whenever it can reasonably do so. Even my invisible flower barrier tiles hardly get accidentally erased at all.

I want a cute custom path instead of my rock one, but there's one issue; it doesn't have the right sound when you walk on it! I could have a cute pink brick road but it sounds like walking on dirt...

For a while I was actually using The Path (well a darker variant of it) and it did look really nice. However I ended up deleting it cause I was only using it in smaller areas of my island, and I couldn't justify how many slots it took up for me to not use it all around town. The lack of sound, while annoying, is a minor inconvenience. I really do like how the paths sound under certain shoes, esp the terracotta path. It sounds different then the rest.

I wanted to use custom paths at first, but once I discovered that they dont have proper sound effects (which is understandable, but still...), and also doesn't show up on the map, I just decided to make do with the official ones

Like a lot of other people, I absolutely adore some of the custom path designs out there and have tried them out, but I dislike the lack of sound effects and that I cannot put other custom designs on them likes leaves or mushrooms. I like that villagers use the normal pathing more often too. I do use custom stone steps that lead off of normal pathing though. Because it's just a side trail the sound doesn't bother me.
The of the biggest things keeping me from using The Path is how many slots it takes up. I like to have a large variety of custom designs to use and don't want like half taken up by pathing. They really do look so amazing though!
