Hello everyone! :) So yesterday I went to EB Games (I believe it's known as GameStop in the United States), and bought Super Mario Galaxy (the first one), because I've wanted it for a while now. Anyways, they had a deal where you could get two used games at a decent price, so I figured might as well get another one because it was only $5 more for the second game. I had trouble deciding on what to get, (they had Super Mario Galaxy 2, but it didn't qualify for the deal). Anyways, long story short the guy working there pulled out Zelda Twilight Princess and asked me if I ever played Zelda before, to which I told him no. He told me to try it, so I bought it and will try it out once I get the chance to.

Any suggestions to a first time player of this series? I don't believe I've really played anything even remotely similar to it so yeah. I've been mainly a Pokemon/Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon/Mario Kart gamer, so this is a whole new experience for me. I am super excited to try it though. :)

Twilight princess was my first zelda game, too.
There really aren't any tips you need, I guess just explore everything possible and enjoy it.

If you get stuck just google a walk through

Twilight Princess is a relatively easy Zelda title, so it's a good choice for your first Zelda game. The only things that are really tough are the heart pieces completion, collecting all the poes, and there's this one ice puzzle cave that's pretty hard. You can find guides for all of these things I think.

Haha modern times. I remember playing through Pokemon Emerald blind without googling a thing (yeah there was internet but I wasn't really on it at that age). It was so hard and took me forever to beat. Now games don't tend to take long because Google is so tempting to use haha. :P

Play a better Zelda.

Or if you really want to continue this one and I'm reading your post right, go swap it for the GCN disc.

Oh my gosh. I love that game. *BREATHING INTENSIFIES*
My advice is not be intimidated by the puzzles. Chances are that if you're stuck with a puzzle, you need to take a step back and evaluate the dungeon, the context, and the item you obtained in that dungeon. Even so, if your trouble is not from a dungeon, talk to people. Whether they offer you witty side-remarks or useful information on how to progress with the story, the people you meet add a certain flavor to your gaming experience.
Last but not least, enjoy the game! I hope you decide to peruse the Zelda franchise further. I've played every Zelda there is and they're all spectacular.

Why do people say that the Gamecube version is better than the Wii version? The Gamecube version has free camera control, but that's not a huge advantage. ~_~

Nah, not about too. Not to mention I don't have a GameCube (yeah, never had one as a kid and I really wish I did). Anyways I also do not have any controllers or memory cards to take advantage of the GC function on my Wii.

I started with Twilight Princess as well. I finally played the game through so many times that I could just do it on my own. Google a walk-through if you get stuck, I had to when I first began.

I played this one especially because I love how Epona looked. (major horse lover incoming)

Holla... you have just discovered the best video game series in this entire universe.

Twilight Princess is not my favourite game of the series though, but it's still pretty good. It's a lot about exploring, so make sure to explore every corner of every area/dungeon if you get stuck. I'm pretty impatient myself so I usually look stuff up on walkthroughs on teh internet. :3

Have fun!

How dare you suggest Twilight Prince sucks. I played the hell out of it on gamecube AND Wii. I even have a Twilight Princess poster.

And yeah, Twilight Princess is one of the easier Zelda titles, but its still a lot of fun(its the first, and only, one I didn't need to pull up a walkthrough to finish, Holla. Woulda been nice to see them make Wolf Link a little more usefull after you gain the ability to swap between wolf and human forms though(it does beat calling for Epona every time you need to travel somewhere though).

Twilight Princess was my first actual Zelda as well, although I had grown up watching my brother play OOT and MM. Jake is right, just have fun with it; if you enjoy it, definitely check out some of the other games, such as Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker. It's a great series, so I hope you enjoy it!

I recommend against looking up guides. The point of the game is to puzzle you, encourage you to figure things out on your own and etc. By looking up how to get past the puzzles, you're really robbing yourself of a big part of the enjoyment of the game.

Also, don't listen to people that say Twilight Princess is the worst game, blah blah. Notice that they have nothing objective to back up that claim. Most complaints are about the games' darker graphics; the mechanics, plot, puzzles, and everything else you'd love about a Zelda game are perfectly fine, better in fact than other Zelda games in my opinion. The OP posted asking for advice about the game, not about advice on whether this is a good game. It's annoying when posters attempt to force their opinion where it's irrelevant.
