So I have a question. Are there risks to doing a lot of time travel? Basically I play until I've run out of things to do, and then I'll skip to the next day. I don't go backwards much, unless I didn't get to play that day through I will go back and finish where I left off.
I've never felt many ill effects from it, except one time when I killed the turnips I bought. However I feel like there is a lot going on in acnl that I don't see or is considered under the radar.
So what's the opinion? Do I need to change my ways?

Time Traveling doesn't have nearly as many risks as previous games. But here's a few~

-Your turnips will spoil. (Only if you move backwards or more than 7 days in New Leaf, otherwise they will not rot.)
-Weeds will show up and flowers wilt unless you have the Beautiful Town Ordinance.
-Villagers might move (if you TT a month or more).

That's it. But if you can live with it, go for it! Play how you want and the way you'll get the most out of the game.

If you enjoy tting, then continue to do so. I would also like to invite you to join the Time Travelers Community in the Groups section.
