Thoughts on showering? 🚿

Was going to post about my edit to OP here but I forgot. When I made this thread I impulsively said I should be showering twice a day when I meant said twice a week. So now I hope I'm not the only one who has room for weekly (once a week) showers. T^T

At least I did learn something about twice-a-day showering though. Thank you @/Yoshi155 and @/xSuperMario64x for the info.

I shower once a day or once every other day. I rarely wash my hair two days in a row though since I've heard it's better not to wash it every day. Although I think that depends on your hair type and the climate where you live. I have mixed feelings about showers. On one hand, they can be relaxing, and I do enjoy feeling clean. The downside is that my skin, and my hands in particular, feels awful after I shower. I have autism, so I'm sensitive to a lot of things when it comes to texture and such, and I guess the water dries my skin out, which creates a sensory nightmare. And so then I think maybe I should use lotion, but I also hate the feeling of lotion... It takes a bit for my skin to go back to normal after a shower. Also, all the steps involved in taking a shower are a bit of an ordeal

I wish I didn't have to clean myself and eat/prepare food, such a waste of time.

I only take showers, no baths at all.

I hated baths and showers growing up because I really don't like the feeling of being soaking wet and having to dry off. I like them a little better now after having some chronic pain issues - a hot bath does help with muscle discomfort. But I still kind of wish I could go through a human car wash and just be instantaneously dried by powerful air vents!

I shower every single night, even though it's not my favorite, because many years ago, when I was in high school, I went to the allergist to get current allergy testing done and was pretty much off the charts for every kind of seasonal allergy. The doctor who spoke to me about my results was like "Do you shower before bed? Because if not, you're basically trapping all that pollen in your hair during the day and then sleeping on it at night" and that CHANGED MY LIFE, oh my goodness. My allergies are still really bad compared to, you know, normal people. But they're a lot better than they were in childhood, mostly because of those nightly showers. Shoutout to that doctor for her casual wisdom!

Sorry for intruding! just concerned but I think showering more often than twice a week is not only more hygienic but also healthier.... all the dirt and grime build-up can actually enter a break in the skin (such as a wound) and cause infection. It can also cause body odor which is, well, unpleasant. I understand being concerned about dry skin, but if you are predisposed to dry skin with semi-regular showering, you can try some lotions or moisturizers.

When I shower (without hair) I usually only take 5-10 minutes, so you can probably work out a shower regimen that's quick for you :]

I shower every day pretty much cause when my hair is longer like it is now, I gotta get it wet to style it or it will look CRAZY and also I end up getting dirty from work so washing up and using my old spice fiji bottle as a microphone is a necessity. I used to speedrun my showers but these days I'm lettin my wavy/curly hair flourish so I gotta put product in it and let it cook in there.

Sometimes I do the two showers in one day thing. I'm aware of the skin issues it can cause.

If I take a second shower, I don't use soap or shampoo. It's purely for comfort purposes of warm water.

i shower once per day during the morning. i used to take night showers due to my high school schedule (required me to wake up at 6:30 AM) but now that i’m in college i shower in the morning because my earliest class starts at 9:00 AM. morning showers save me time because i have tons of homework when i get home but i miss my night showers, they were really relaxing.

i basically do an everything shower every morning because it wakes me up and my hair gets nasty if i don’t wash it everyday.

I use to feel the same way until I realized I don't have to wash my hair everyday. With removing just that, showering is maybe 10 minutes. If I need to do any additional skin care stuff, I just divide it up throughout the week so everyday is still pretty short. I don't think I could go without at least once a day due to my type of work/activities. Peoples' needs won't always be the same so they may require more or less. In terms of baths, I view those more as leisure than hygienic. Really helps with soreness after a long day.

For those who feel cold/freezing after a shower, you need to towel dry as fast as possible. It's the water making you feel cold. Sort of how sweating is the bodies natural response to cool you off. The faster you are dry, the faster you are at a comfortable room temperature.

Edit: for those with long hair, I imagine that stays cold for a while. I can't relate! But dry the rest of yourself as fast as possible. I can always tell when I missed a spot (drying, usually my upper arms for some reason) when I step out of the shower. I instantly feel those cold spots!

Thinking of showering and all it entails is exhausting to me, especially on my bad mental health days where I'm particularly fatigued, but actually showering is comforting for me and is my favourite form of self-care. It's also not all that exhausting for me to do once I actually get going - just the thought of doing it is exhausting and overwhelming for some reason.

I could be having a day from hell or feeling like my mental health is the worst it's ever been, and showering will always make me feel at least a little better. There's something comforting about being able to turn my mind off for 20-30 minutes and just go through the motions of showering, and to have no responsibilities other than showering for that small window of time. It's also just always better to be clean when you're having a bad day; like yeah your day is bad, but at least you don't smell bad LOL.

I especially love cold showers! They're great for cooling me down in the summer and for waking me up a bit on days where my fatigue/brain fog are especially bad.

My least favourite part about showering is definitely cleaning up after, though. I lose quite a bit of hair during my showers, and having to get the strands of hair that don't make it to the hair catcher in the drain or that get caught on the anti-slip mat sucks lol.

I shower once a week, but I am trying to do it twice a week now (kinda forgot to do it on Sunday) but with a bit of space in between.
I rarely take baths now, it's only if I wanna soak a bit, maybe a bath bomb or so I xan watch something as sit there.
But I feel like I waste too much water thus way since I then shower afterwards.

I think I used to love baths as a kid. I remember my mum leaving me and I just used my imagination playing before it was time to shampoo.
It was HELL when I had long hair. I hated it. I had ti use so much shampoo.

What's worse and why I decided to do twice a week is that my hair gets way too oily and greasy. It's a pain because I can never find shampoo fir greasy or oil hair.
People keep saying that's a question for your hairdresser but I don't have much money ti spend on hairdressers, my hair is growing again and would like it shorter.

I also seem to really take short showers, everyt8me my mum says oh that was quick. But I do solely just focusing on shampooing my hair, washing body and such and getting out.
Sonetimes i hate getting out because my feet get itchy but i think thats cause in the past i gavent dried them completely.

I grew up in a home that only has a bath, so showers are kind of a luxury to me. I like that they take less time to prepare for, and it somehow feels easier to wash myself and actually feel clean. Whenever I'm staying somewhere that has a shower, I gladly take full advantage of it lol

It's a pain because I can never find shampoo fir greasy or oil hair.

try to find shampoo with tea tree, ginger, mint, or citrus! make sure it's just shampoo and doesn't advertise also conditioning your hair, since that can make the oiliness worse. avoid common ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter/oil since those are moisturizing (the opposite of de-oilifying!)

if anything just condition a couple times a week, and use one you rinse out rather than leave in your hair. make sure you check ingredients in those too though, if you mix a shampoo for oily hair with a conditioner for dry hair they're just gonna cancel each other out lol

If you have long hair, something I do is use conditioner on the mid and ends of the hair rather than close to the scalp. For me, it's a good compromise and may or may not work for others. Just an option.

At least once a day, and definitely before bed. I can't handle the thought of going to bed and not being squeaky clean. On the rare occasion i do go to bed without a shower or bath, i usually end up laundering the sheets the next day.

But also- i do work outside fairly often, doing yardwork stuff, sometimes barefoot. So yeah, shower before bed.
