Thoughts on popular villagers?

Tbf I was kind of scared of liking popular villagers. I already had one single dreamie who was kind of popular or I thought so, Lucky, and when there is an enormous amount of people loving one character like it's happening with Raymond now, I always get scared I may be just joining the masses in something that may be just overrated and later when I get it feel like I've been scammed.

But after meeting popular characters such as Sherb and Audie I've realized... it was a silly worry.

Do not let anyone talk you down in what you like. You're the only one that likes a character? Great. You're not the only one and the character is super popular? Great.

Just play the game, love your experience, and get anyone you love, no matter what others may think of it c:

what you said went right over my head. i didn't know people actually went out of their way to get cute villagers just to have the popular stuff. that's... uhm, okay. i thought Hipsters stopped being a thing in 2012. well, in that case, sorry about my post and i agree with you. those people who need to have the most popular, just because they're popular are sad imo.

In some cases, it's more of the aesthetics choice. In New Leaf, hacking towns were a big boom back then, they handpick the most "cute" ones. Tier lists provided those options to choose from so...it's like that. Personally, I find tier lists kinda weird in a game like AC but I can understand it if the people viewing it have the intention of selling said villagers than "liking" it.

I have Ankha's amiibo just to sell and not because I like her (for example).

that's a fair point. i sorta forgot about selling villagers for a second there. tbh, hording the popular ones just to sell them makes sense to me. (pretty much the reason why I want Raymond so bad. I mean, I like his design... but when I think about what I can make off him, I just...)
